Tour guide was not very knowledgeable. Have been on many food tours and this was somewhat disappointing.

I'm an avid traveler and huge fan of Food Tours anywhere I go. This experience felt more like "progressive high end dining" than an actual Food Tour and I felt the description did not fit the experience. The FOOD and locations were incredible- THANK YOU for such a delicious evening. I believe you could serve 1/2 the portions at all locations with one additional stop to really make the event feel more like a "tour" of the area. The reason it did not feel like a tour was the lack of engagement, information or explanation from the guide. We learned about the history of Montrose on 1 block for 10 minutes- that was the extent of any "tour". Disheartening on a 3.5 hour experience in a city with such a dynamic food scene. Servers explained all of our food/what we were eating at each location. So meals were served without any history/context or exlanation for what made each stop special and you were at the mercy of how loud a resturant was/the staff. We were so disappointed and surprised to find out later that we ended the evening at a a James Beard award winning chef (and we only found this out doing research after). The bulk of what we learned about Houston, Montrose and the cuisine was from other locals on the tours. In the future it would be great to add: More history about Montrose and Houston Explanations/history of the food we are eating Fun facts about each location (beyond the obvious "this was a movie theatre") Additional fun facts about what makes Houston/the food etc so unique. Based on our experience, I wouldn't feel comfortable recommended this tour to anyone. The food and locations are exceptional but title and description very misleading.

The first and third restaurant were pretty good, El Real was not that impressive. Mostly, we were underwhelmed by our tour guide (Heidi). We all received instructions to meet outside the first restaurant, and while we waited in the rain for ten minutes prior to start time and five minutes after (as instructed), eventually after 15 minutes she wandered out from inside the restaurant supposedly confused where we were supposed to meet? Outside of pointing out a few murals along the route from the restaurants, not that much of a tour...we were hoping for more of a detailed tour of the neighborhood since most of us were from Houston. There was little to no ineteraction at the restaurants with Heidi, and at the end of the night (after nearly four hours) she actually had no idea that two separate couples were celebrating birthdays and one couple an anniversary. Probably would not recommend her as a guide in the future, but we liked the concept. Maybe a different guide would bring a more lively experience.
