Touristic as playa del carmen - We made our booking via an online chat and found it straight forward and efficient. We selected ‘hotel pick up’ and were told to be there at 7:00 with other guests. We had our first roll call there, then were taken by bus to a downtown souvenir store. We had to ‘check in’ here and pay an additional 14$ each (admission tax for chitchen itza that is being payed on the site). Then we had to wait there a while by this store. We had a second and third roll call to check we were still present. Then we were walked back to the buses, our names were checked a 4th time as we boarded and departed around 8:30-8:45. This was an inefficient waste of time. It would have been easier for us to go direct to the ‘check in’ point and we wouldn’t have missed breakfast. It felt like we were brought there as easy customers for the souvenir store. The tour guide and driver were great. The tour guide was entertaining and had fantastic knowledge to share. At the tour sites, he kept the tour moving along well, was personable and insightful. It was a great experience. Our issues with the tour itself was a couple of situations in which we felt we were being coerced into buying souvenirs while journeying on the bus. Honestly this left a bad taste in our mouths. We chose a guided a tour, we didn’t choose to be subjected to salesman techniques while stuck on a bus. We would have appreciated it more and responded better if the tour guide has simply informed us that we can give a tip as we leave the bus. Rather than feeling like they were trying to fleece us some of the time. It’s a long day and great value. I think they could charge a bit more and do less.
