Sailing into Serenity: A Day Exploring Comino and Gozo
When the ocean calls, I answer. This time, it led me to the enchanting islands of Comino and Gozo, where crystal-clear waters and historic charm awaited. Join me as I recount a day of snorkeling, exploring, and soaking in the beauty of Malta’s northern gems.
Setting Sail from St. Paul’s Bay
The sun was just beginning to cast its golden glow over the horizon as I made my way to St. Paul’s Bay, the starting point of my latest island adventure. With a gentle breeze in the air and the promise of a day filled with exploration, I couldn’t help but feel a familiar thrill of excitement. As a former professional surfer, the ocean has always been my playground, and today, it was calling me to explore the enchanting islands of Comino and Gozo.
Arriving at the dock, I was greeted by the friendly crew of Hornblower Cruises, a family-run business that has been sharing the beauty of Malta’s northern islands since 1984. The boat was abuzz with fellow adventurers, all eager to embark on this journey. As we set sail, the stunning coastline of Malta unfolded before us, with its rugged cliffs and hidden coves. The anticipation of what lay ahead was palpable, and I couldn’t wait to dive into the crystal-clear waters of the Blue Lagoon.
Discovering the Blue Lagoon
Our first stop was the famous Blue Lagoon on Comino Island, a place that had been on my bucket list for quite some time. As we approached, the turquoise waters shimmered invitingly, and I knew I was in for a treat. The boat moored up, and we had 90 minutes to explore this slice of paradise. I wasted no time in grabbing my snorkeling gear and diving into the refreshing embrace of the lagoon.
The underwater world was a kaleidoscope of colors, with vibrant fish darting around the coral reefs. It was a surreal experience, and I felt a deep sense of connection with the ocean, a feeling that never fails to rejuvenate my spirit. After snorkeling, I took a leisurely stroll around Comino Island, soaking in the breathtaking views and the tranquility of this unspoiled gem.
Back on the boat, I couldn’t resist trying the pineapple cocktail that had been recommended by fellow travelers. Sipping on the tropical concoction, I lounged on the sun deck, basking in the warm rays and feeling utterly content. The Blue Lagoon had lived up to its reputation, and I was eager to see what Gozo had in store.
Exploring the Island of Gozo
Our next destination was Gozo, the second-largest island in the Maltese archipelago. As we docked at Mgarr Harbour, we were given the option to explore on our own or join a guided bus tour. Opting for the latter, I was whisked away to the Qala Belvedere viewpoint, where panoramic vistas of the island stretched out before me.
The tour continued to Victoria, the capital of Gozo, where I had the chance to wander through the charming streets and visit the Citadel. This ancient fortress offered breathtaking views of the island, and I took a moment to reflect on the rich history and culture that surrounded me. The sense of adventure and discovery was invigorating, and I felt grateful for the opportunity to experience such a unique place.
As the day drew to a close, we made our way back to the boat, stopping briefly to admire the stunning rock formations near the Blue Lagoon. The journey back to St. Paul’s Bay was filled with laughter and camaraderie, as fellow travelers shared stories and memories of the day’s adventures. It was a fitting end to an unforgettable experience, and I couldn’t help but feel a renewed appreciation for the beauty of island life.
In the end, the Island Adventure had been everything I had hoped for and more. From the vibrant marine life of the Blue Lagoon to the historic charm of Gozo, it was a day that celebrated the wonders of the ocean and the joy of exploration. As I disembarked at St. Paul’s Bay, I knew that this adventure would linger in my heart, inspiring future journeys and stories to share with you all.
