Setting Sail from Bugibba

The morning sun cast a golden hue over the charming seaside town of Bugibba as I boarded the Mermaid, a quaint family-run boat that promised an intimate and personalized adventure. As a marine biologist, the allure of exploring the sea caves and the highlights of Gozo was irresistible. As I explored the bustling markets and sampled local Gozitan delicacies, I felt a deep connection to the island’s rich heritage. The two hours spent in Victoria flew by, and I returned to the harbour with a newfound appreciation for Gozo’s unique blend of history and natural beauty.

A Serene Return via St. Paul’s Islands

The journey back to Malta was equally enchanting, with a stop at the historical St. Paul’s Islands. Here, we had the chance to swim once more or trek up to the famous statue of St. Paul. I opted for a leisurely swim, savoring the tranquility of the secluded bay. The Mermaid’s bar offered a selection of refreshments, and I enjoyed a glass of wine as the boat gently rocked on the waves.

As the day drew to a close, the captain sounded the horn, signaling our return to Bugibba. The Maltese coastline, bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun, was a sight to behold. Reflecting on the day’s adventures, I realized that this trip aboard the Mermaid was more than just a tour; it was a journey of discovery, both of the sea and of myself.
