Island Hopping Bliss: A Day on the Hornblower Cruise
With a deep love for the ocean and a thirst for adventure, I couldn’t resist the allure of the Hornblower Cruise. Join me as I explore the stunning Blue Lagoon, Comino, and Gozo, uncovering the beauty and excitement of these Maltese islands.
Setting Sail from St. Paul’s Bay
The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I made my way to the dock at St. Paul’s Bay. The air was crisp, and the promise of a day filled with adventure hung in the air. As a former professional surfer, I’ve always had a deep connection with the ocean, and the idea of exploring two islands in a single day was too tempting to resist. The Hornblower Cruise promised a journey through the crystal-clear waters of the Blue Lagoon, Comino, and Gozo, and I was eager to experience it all.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by Kevin and his friendly crew, who made everyone feel right at home. The boat was bustling with excitement, and I quickly found a spot on the top deck, eager to soak in the sun and the stunning views. As we set sail, Kevin’s commentary provided fascinating insights into the history and beauty of the islands we were about to explore. The anticipation was palpable, and I couldn’t wait to dive into the adventure that lay ahead.
Diving into the Blue Lagoon
Our first stop was the famous Blue Lagoon on Comino Island. The water was a mesmerizing shade of turquoise, and I couldn’t resist the urge to dive right in. The temperature was a brisk 17°C, but the invigorating chill only added to the thrill of the experience. I spent the next hour and a half snorkeling, swimming, and even taking a few exhilarating rides down the boat’s slide into the lagoon.
The boat’s facilities were top-notch, with plenty of sunbathing spots and a well-stocked cafeteria offering refreshing drinks and snacks. I indulged in a pineapple cocktail, which was as delicious as it was photogenic. The crew’s clear instructions ensured that everyone knew when and where to be for the next leg of the journey, and before I knew it, we were off to explore the island of Gozo.
Exploring the Wonders of Gozo
Arriving at Gozo’s Mgarr Harbour, I opted for the mini-bus tour to make the most of my time on the island. The tour took us through the charming streets of Victoria, the capital city, where I marveled at the historic architecture and vibrant local culture. We also made a stop at Xlendi Bay, a picturesque spot that offered breathtaking views of the coastline.
As the day wore on, the weather began to change, with clouds rolling in and the wind picking up. The Hornblower crew was quick to lower protective curtains on the boat, ensuring a comfortable ride back to Malta. Reflecting on the day’s adventures, I realized that the Hornblower Cruise had delivered an unforgettable experience, blending the thrill of exploration with the serene beauty of the Maltese islands. It’s a journey I would gladly embark on again, and one I highly recommend to fellow ocean lovers and adventure seekers alike.
