Island Hopping Bliss: A Day Exploring Comino and Gozo
Eager to explore the islands of Comino and Gozo, I embarked on a thrilling adventure from St. Paul’s Bay. With the promise of sun, sea, and exploration, this trip was a perfect blend of relaxation and discovery.
Setting Sail from St. Paul’s Bay
The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I made my way to St. Paul’s Bay, the starting point for my latest island adventure. The air was crisp, and the anticipation of exploring Comino and Gozo was palpable. As a former professional surfer, I’ve always had a deep connection with the ocean, and this trip promised to be a perfect blend of relaxation and exploration.
Arriving early, I managed to snag a coveted sunbed on the top deck of the Hornblower cruise boat. The gentle sway of the boat and the promise of a day filled with sun and sea set the tone for what was to come. As we departed, the sights of St. Paul’s Islands and the statue of St. Paul were a fitting start to our journey. The boat’s facilities were more than adequate, with shaded and sunny seating options, a cafeteria, and even a slide for those looking to make a splash.
Diving into the Blue Lagoon
Our first stop was the famous Blue Lagoon on Comino Island. The crystal-clear waters were a mesmerizing shade of turquoise, inviting us to dive in and explore. As someone who spends a lot of time in the water, I couldn’t resist the call of the sea. Snorkeling in the Blue Lagoon was an experience like no other, with vibrant marine life and the gentle caress of the waves.
The boat’s strategic mooring position allowed us to enjoy the lagoon without feeling overcrowded, despite the presence of other boats. I took full advantage of the sun deck, soaking in the sun’s rays and the breathtaking views. The slide from the boat into the lagoon was a fun touch, adding a playful element to the serene surroundings.
Exploring the Island of Gozo
After a refreshing swim, we set sail for Gozo, where we had three hours to explore. Opting for the private bus tour, I was eager to see what this island had to offer. The journey to Victoria, Gozo’s capital, was a scenic one, with rolling hills and charming villages dotting the landscape.
Victoria itself was a delightful mix of history and culture. The Citadel, with its ancient walls and panoramic views, was a highlight. However, the bus service was a bit disorganized, and we ended up with less time to explore than anticipated. Despite this, the charm of Gozo was undeniable, and I made the most of my time there, enjoying a leisurely lunch and soaking in the local atmosphere.
As we sailed back to St. Paul’s Bay, the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the water. Reflecting on the day’s adventures, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to explore these beautiful islands. The combination of sun, sea, and culture made for an unforgettable experience, one that I would highly recommend to fellow ocean lovers and adventure seekers alike.
