Ascending Through the Clouds

The thrill of adventure is a siren call I can never resist, and when I heard about the Teide by Night experience, I knew it was a journey I had to embark on. As a former extreme sports athlete, I’ve scaled mountains and trekked through deserts, but the promise of a sunset and stargazing adventure on Mount Teide was a new kind of thrill.

Our journey began in Costa Adeje, where the sky was overcast, casting a gray veil over the landscape. But as we ascended through the clouds, the world transformed. The gray gave way to a brilliant blue sky, and the sun bathed us in its warm embrace. It was as if we had crossed into another realm, leaving the mundane behind.

Our guide, Isabelle, was a fountain of knowledge, sharing stories and insights about the region that made the journey to Teide pass in the blink of an eye. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and our driver, Michaelangelo, navigated the winding roads with the skill of a seasoned pro, his cheerful demeanor adding to the camaraderie of our group.

A Feast for the Senses

Upon reaching Teide, we were greeted by the stunning vistas of the National Park. The rock formations stood like sentinels against the backdrop of the mighty Mount Teide, a sight that stirred the adventurer in me. We had ample time to capture these moments, each click of the camera a testament to the beauty that surrounded us.

Our next stop was the highest restaurant in the park, where a delicious meal awaited us. The place was bustling, but the staff moved with the precision of a well-oiled machine, ensuring everyone was well-fed and refreshed. With wine, beer, and soft drinks flowing, the atmosphere was one of celebration, a prelude to the spectacle that was to come.

As the sun began its descent, we made our way to a viewing platform, cava in hand, courtesy of Isabelle. The sunset was a masterpiece painted in hues of pink, red, and purple, a sight that left us all in awe. It was the kind of moment that makes you feel alive, a reminder of the beauty that exists in the world.

A Celestial Symphony

With the sun’s departure, the night sky took center stage. We moved to a new location for stargazing, and what a show it was! Isabelle, with her laser pointer, guided us through the constellations, her knowledge of astronomy as vast as the sky above us. We spotted two shooting stars, a satellite, and even glimpsed the Milky Way, a sight that took my breath away.

The grand finale awaited us back at the Teide car park, where telescopes had been set up for a closer look at the stars. Ezekiel, Isabelle’s colleague, was there to assist, and the view through the telescopes was nothing short of spectacular. It was a fitting end to an unforgettable adventure, one that I would recommend to any thrill-seeker looking for a unique experience.

As we made our way back, the chill of the night air was a stark contrast to the warmth of the day’s adventures. But it was a reminder of the heights we had reached, both literally and figuratively.
