Setting Sail from St. Paul’s Bay

The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I made my way to the dock at St. Paul’s Bay. The anticipation of a day spent on the water, exploring the hidden gems of the Maltese islands, had me buzzing with excitement. As a former professional surfer, the ocean has always been my playground, and today promised to be an adventure like no other. The Hornblower’s decks were already bustling with fellow travelers, eager to embark on the Blue Lagoon Cruise and discover the beauty of Comino and Gozo.

As we set sail, the boat was indeed crowded, but the energy was infectious. The captain’s voice crackled over the PA system, sharing tales of St. Paul’s shipwreck and the history of the islands we were about to explore. The gentle sway of the boat and the salty breeze on my face reminded me of the countless hours I’ve spent riding waves, and I couldn’t help but feel at home.

Discovering the Blue Lagoon

Our first stop was the legendary Blue Lagoon on Comino, a place often described as paradise on earth. With most of the passengers disembarking for a tour of Gozo, those of us who remained had the upper deck to ourselves. I stretched out on a deck chair, soaking in the sun and the serene beauty of the lagoon. The slide into the water was irresistible, and I found myself plunging into the refreshing depths, the cool water a welcome contrast to the warm sun.

The depth of the water, around 3-4 meters, was perfect for snorkeling, and I spent hours exploring the underwater world. The vibrant marine life and the gentle sway of the seaweed reminded me of the many dives I’ve taken in the Caribbean, each one a new adventure waiting to be discovered.

A Day to Remember

As the day unfolded, the music played on, perfectly complementing the laid-back vibe of the cruise. The tunes seemed to sync with the rhythm of the waves, creating a soundtrack that will forever be etched in my memory. The camaraderie among the remaining passengers was palpable, each of us sharing stories and laughter as we basked in the sun.

The return journey took us back to Gozo to pick up the rest of the group before heading back to St. Paul’s Bay. As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, I couldn’t help but reflect on the day’s adventures. The Blue Lagoon Cruise had offered a perfect blend of relaxation and exploration, a reminder of why I fell in love with the ocean in the first place.
