Chasing Sun and Sea: A Spontaneous Island Adventure in Malta
With a spontaneous spirit and a love for the sea, I embarked on an unforgettable island adventure from St. Paul’s Bay, exploring the stunning islands of Comino and Gozo. Join me as I dive into the Blue Lagoon and uncover the hidden charms of Gozo.
Setting Sail from St. Paul’s Bay
The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I made my way to St. Paul’s Bay, the starting point for my spontaneous island adventure. The air was crisp, and the promise of a perfect day at sea was palpable. As a former professional surfer, I’ve always had a deep connection with the ocean, and the idea of exploring the islands of Comino and Gozo was too tempting to resist. With a carefree spirit and a love for the sea, I booked the Island Adventure the night before, eager to experience the beauty of Malta’s northern islands.
The Hornblower Cruises boat was already bustling with energy as I arrived. The crew, friendly and welcoming, set the tone for the day. I quickly snagged a spot on the top sunbathing deck, knowing from experience that the best views are always from the top. As we set sail, the captain’s playlist filled the air with a mix of island tunes that perfectly complemented the stunning coastal scenery. We cruised past St. Paul’s Island, with its towering statue, and entered the mesmerizing Ahrax Cave, setting the stage for the adventure ahead.
Diving into the Blue Lagoon
Our first stop was the famous Blue Lagoon on Comino Island. The water was a dazzling shade of turquoise, inviting us to dive in and explore. As someone who has spent countless hours in the ocean, I couldn’t resist the call of the sea. I took a thrilling ride down the boat’s slide, plunging into the warm, crystal-clear waters. The lagoon was bustling with activity, but there was plenty of space to swim, snorkel, and soak up the sun.
The boat served as a perfect base, allowing us to come and go as we pleased. I took a leisurely swim, explored the rocky coves, and even had time to dry off before we set sail for Gozo. The onboard facilities were top-notch, with everything from a cafeteria to locker facilities, making it easy to relax and enjoy the day. As we left Comino, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to experience such a breathtaking place.
Exploring the Charms of Gozo
Arriving at Gozo’s Mġarr Harbour, I opted for the €5 shuttle bus to make the most of my time on the island. Our driver, Paul, was a gem, sharing insights and stories about Gozo’s rich history and culture. We stopped in Victoria, the capital city, where I had the chance to wander through the charming streets, visit local shops, and take in the stunning views from the Citadel.
The three-hour stop on Gozo was just enough to get a taste of the island’s unique charm. I found myself captivated by the blend of old-world architecture and vibrant local life. As we made our way back to the boat, I reflected on the day’s adventures, feeling a deep sense of contentment. The journey back to St. Paul’s Bay was filled with laughter, music, and the gentle rocking of the boat, a perfect end to an unforgettable day.
For anyone with a love for the sea and a spirit of adventure, this island-hopping experience is a must. Whether you’re diving into the Blue Lagoon or exploring the hidden gems of Gozo, the Island Adventure offers a perfect blend of relaxation and excitement. Until next time, keep riding the waves and chasing the sun!
