It is one of the most perfect tours Savannah has to offer. Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil written by John Berendt. "The Book" is a true story and we will drive throughout our historic district showing you houses owned and restored by antique dealer Jim Williams We will also show where filming took place You will then have a tour of the Mercer House where you can hear the history of the house and just imagine the grand Christmas parties that Jim hosted. then drive to Bonaventure Cemetery where the cemetery scenes were filmed-but unfortunately no martinis allowed. Established in 1849, Bonaventure has been described as a natural garden with live oak trees draped with Spanish moss and thousands of azaleas. Standing within this "garden" are beautiful sculptures of grieving ladies, ornately carved crypts, obelisks and statue of Gracie Watson. John Muir; founder of the Sierra Club, spent six days at Bonaventure and wrote "the rippling of living water, the song of birds, the joyous confidence of flowers, the calm undisturbed grandeur of the oaks, mark this place of graves as one of the Lord's most favored abodes of life and light." We will drive the 100-acre cemetery, walk along the bluff of the Wilmington River and visit the grave sites of famous lyricist, Johnny Mercer; poet, Conrad Aiken and other famous Georgians. Savannah Heritage Tours will offer you plenty of opportunities to step off the bus for photos during the driving part of the tour and of course, we will walk in the older section of the cemetery and along the bluff overlooking the Wilmington River. I am a life-time member of the Bonaventure Historical Society.

We had a great time on The Grand Tour! Our guide Angela was very knowledgeable since she was a life long resident of Savannah. She took us to the Historic district, we toured the Mercer-Williams House, and toured Bonaventure Cemetery all while telling us about the characters of The Book! We couldn’t have a better time! We highly recommend this tour!

Angela picked us up at our rental house and we were to only ones (2) on the tour. She was very knowledgeable about Savannah’s history and also the characters that played a role in “Midnight”. She was very down to earth and hospitable. Julia and I were very impressed and anyone would be pleased with this tour. It was really wonderful spending time with Angela. Teresa Rodger
