A Journey Through Sarchi

The day began with an early morning pickup, right on time, in a sleek, modern van. As we cruised through the Costa Rican countryside, the anticipation of the day’s adventure was palpable. Our first stop was the charming town of Sarchi, a place steeped in history and renowned for its vibrant art crafts and the iconic coffee bean oxcarts. The demonstration of the oxcart building process was fascinating, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural tapestry of the region. The town itself was a delightful blend of tradition and creativity, with clean restrooms that were a welcome sight for travelers like us.

Sarchi was a gentle introduction to the day’s journey, a place where time seemed to slow down, allowing us to soak in the beauty of handcrafted art and the stories behind them. The world’s largest ox cart stood proudly, a testament to the town’s craftsmanship and dedication. It was a perfect start, setting the tone for the adventure that lay ahead.

The Majestic Arenal Volcano

After leaving Sarchi, we embarked on a long, winding drive to La Fortuna, where a typical Costa Rican lunch awaited us. The meal was a delightful array of local flavors, a culinary journey that prepared us for the next leg of our adventure. With our appetites satisfied, we set off to the Arenal Volcano viewing point.

The hike to the viewing point was invigorating, and as we reached the top, we were greeted by the awe-inspiring sight of the Arenal Volcano. The skies were clear, a rare blessing that allowed us to fully appreciate the majestic beauty of this natural wonder. The volcano stood tall and proud, its conical shape a reminder of the powerful forces of nature that shaped it. We spent a good fifteen minutes capturing the moment, each click of the camera a testament to the unforgettable views.

Soaking in Baldi Hot Springs

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the Baldi Hot Springs. As we arrived, we were given locker keys and instructions, with the option to rent towels for a small deposit. The springs were a haven of relaxation, with 25 different mineral water pools to choose from, each offering a unique experience. The thermal waters were soothing, their warmth seeping into our bones and washing away the fatigue of the day.

We had two and a half hours to indulge in the rejuvenating waters, a generous amount of time that allowed us to explore the various pools and find our perfect spot. The springs were a sanctuary, a place where the worries of the world seemed to melt away. As the sun began to set, we reluctantly left the waters to enjoy a buffet dinner. The meal was plentiful, with a variety of options to satisfy every palate, though it lacked the excellence of the earlier lunch.

The return journey was long, nearly four hours without a restroom break, a minor blemish on an otherwise perfect day. Despite this, the experience was unforgettable, a blend of culture, nature, and relaxation that left me yearning for more adventures in this beautiful country.
