A Day in Sarchi: The Unexpected Charm of an Artisan Town

As a seasoned traveler and surfer, I’ve roamed the coastlines of Central America, always on the lookout for the perfect wave. But every now and then, I find myself drawn inland, away from the ocean’s embrace, to explore the hidden gems that lie beyond the surf. This time, my journey took me to Sarchi, a quaint artisan town nestled in the heart of Costa Rica. I had heard whispers of its charm, but I was skeptical. After all, how could anything compare to the thrill of riding a wave? Yet, as I stepped off the tour bus, I was greeted by the vibrant colors and intricate designs of the world’s largest ox cart, a testament to the town’s rich history and craftsmanship.

Our guide, Donald, was a fountain of knowledge, weaving tales of the ox cart’s significance in Costa Rican culture as we wandered through the town. As we made our way back to the coast, the long drive home gave me plenty of time to ponder the day’s experiences.
