Highlights
  • Akagera National Park - Lies in the Eastern part of Rwanda, where the countryside gives way to savannah, with clusters of acacia mingled with open grassland. The scenery is dominated by a labyrinth of swamps forming a sprawling wetland and extensive series of lakes that follow the meandering course of the Akagera River, believed to be the most remote source of the river Nile. The park boasts of a unique ‘spring-like climate ‘which make safaris to this area exceptionally pleasant. As one makes their way through the swamps and savanna, giraffes and zebra roam freely. Species of antelope including the handsome chestnut coated Impala, the diminutive oribi, the ungainly Tsessebe, and shy Bushbuck can be seen in excess. Elephant and buffalo emerge from the savannah including the rest of big five are find in Akagera National Park.

Best Accommodation at the Righno hotel. - Akagera National park game viewing in Rwanda was very enjoyable and the tour guide called Venous was the best and very knowledgeble about wildlife because we managed to search for the big five mammals plus species of birds.

Akagera National Park - I was very impressed with the park. Unfortunately we came in the afternoon and so was not able to see all the big 5. However we saw the hyena, Elephants and buffalo though. It was a well organised tour made even more interesting and informative by our excellent tour guides, Liz Tuyisenge and Coco. A 2 hour trip from the centre of Kigali which gave us a perfect opportunity to see a bit of the country side. I definitely will go back for a repeat performance.

Great Safari experience! - We had great sightings of different animals especially Elephants and Zebras. It was the best game drive Safari had experienced. We saw the different Lakes, about 6 of them, within the massive Game Reserve, including the biggest, Akagera Lake, which is on the border between Rwanda and Tanzania. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and our Tour Agent, Phoenix Tour and Travel Company, ensured the entire visit went smoothly.
