A Journey Through the Clouds

As a former professional surfer, I’ve always been drawn to the ocean’s vastness and the mysteries it holds. But this time, I decided to trade the waves for the stars and embark on a different kind of adventure. The allure of the Teide by Night experience in Puerto de la Cruz was too tempting to resist. With a promise of breathtaking sunsets and stargazing, I knew this was a journey I had to take.

The trip began with a drive through the lush pine forests of Teide National Park. The air was crisp, and the scent of pine was invigorating. Our guide, Fernando, was a fountain of knowledge, sharing insights about the Canarian way of life, the local ecology, and the history of Teide. His gentle humor made the journey even more enjoyable. As we ascended, the landscape transformed, and soon we were above the clouds, with the Atlantic Ocean stretching out below us.

The rest stops along the way were perfectly timed, allowing us to soak in the stunning views without feeling rushed. Each stop was a chance to connect with nature and appreciate the unique beauty of the island. It was a reminder of why I love island life so much – the freedom, the beauty, and the endless opportunities for adventure.

A Sunset to Remember

As the sun began its descent, we arrived at a vantage point that offered an unobstructed view of the horizon. The sky was a canvas of pinks, reds, and purples, and the sight was nothing short of magical. Watching the sunset over Teide was an experience that words can hardly capture. It’s something you have to see for yourself, especially with someone special by your side.

After the sun had set, we made our way to Restaurante Papillon, the highest restaurant in the National Park. The meal was delightful, with a vegetarian option available and plenty of wine to go around. It wasn’t a fine dining experience, but it was well-executed and satisfying. The camaraderie among the guests added to the evening’s charm, and it felt like we were all part of a shared adventure.

Stargazing Under the Tenerife Sky

With our bellies full and spirits high, we ventured out into the night for the stargazing portion of the tour. Armed with hot chocolate, we gathered around as Fernando pointed out the constellations with laser precision. His passion for the stars was infectious, and we all learned so much from his engaging stories and explanations.

The telescopes provided a closer look at the deep sky, revealing the wonders of the universe in stunning detail. It was a humbling experience, reminding me of the vastness of the world beyond our own. As someone who spends so much time connected to the ocean, it was a refreshing change to connect with the sky.

Our coach driver navigated the winding mountain roads with impressive skill, ensuring a smooth and safe journey back. As we descended, I reflected on the evening’s events and felt grateful for the opportunity to experience such a unique adventure.
