Exploring Tenerife’s Hidden Treasures: A Family Adventure to Mt. Teide and Masca Valley
Eager to explore Tenerife’s hidden gems with my kids, I embarked on the Mt. Teide and Masca Valley tour. Join me as I recount our adventure through volcanic landscapes, charming villages, and breathtaking views.
A Journey Through Time and Nature
Our adventure began with a convenient hotel pick-up, a feature I always appreciate when traveling with my three kids. It saves the hassle of navigating unfamiliar roads and allows us to start our day stress-free. Our first stop was an Aloe Vera plantation. While the kids were more interested in the plants than the sales pitch, it was a brief educational moment about the benefits of Aloe Vera. However, I must admit, this stop felt more like a commercial break than a part of the tour.
The real magic began as we approached Mt. Teide. The landscape transformed into a surreal volcanic wonderland, and the kids were fascinated by the otherworldly rock formations. We had about 30 minutes to explore, which was just enough time for a short walk and some family photos with the majestic volcano as our backdrop. The crisp mountain air and the stunning views made it a memorable experience for all of us.
Discovering Hidden Gems
Our next destination was the charming town of Garachico. Known for its history and resilience, Garachico was once the island’s main port before a volcanic eruption changed its fate. We enjoyed a delightful lunch at a local restaurant, where the kids were thrilled with the three-course meal and the adults appreciated the local wine. The view from the restaurant was breathtaking, overlooking the town’s natural pools and the Atlantic Ocean.
After lunch, we headed to Icod de los Vinos, home to the legendary Dragon Tree. The kids were intrigued by the tales of the tree’s ancient history, and we took a leisurely stroll through the town to admire its rustic charm. The Dragon Tree itself was a sight to behold, and it sparked the kids’ imaginations with stories of dragons and ancient legends.
The Thrill of Masca
The drive to Masca was an adventure in itself, with winding roads and dramatic cliffs that kept us on the edge of our seats. Our driver was skilled and confident, making the journey both thrilling and safe. Masca, a hidden gem nestled in the mountains, was a highlight of the tour. Although our stop was brief, the village’s beauty left a lasting impression. The kids were captivated by the stunning views and the sense of mystery that surrounded the place.
As we made our way back, we passed the towering Los Gigantes cliffs, a fitting end to a day filled with natural wonders and cultural discoveries. The tour guide’s knowledge and enthusiasm added depth to our experience, making it both educational and enjoyable for the whole family.
This full-day tour of Mt. Teide and Masca Valley was a perfect blend of adventure, education, and relaxation. It’s a journey I highly recommend for families looking to explore Tenerife’s hidden treasures and create unforgettable memories together.
