A Family’s Night Under the Stars in Tenerife
When I heard about the Teide National Park Sunset & Stargazing with Dinner, I knew it was a must-do for our family trip to Tenerife. Join me as I recount our magical evening exploring the night sky from one of the best stargazing spots on Earth.
A Journey to the Stars
Our adventure began with a convenient pick-up just a few steps from our accommodation in Los Cristianos. As a family travel writer, I always appreciate when logistics are made easy, especially when traveling with kids. The anticipation was palpable as we boarded the coach, ready to embark on an evening of exploration and wonder.
Our first stop was a charming local Canarian restaurant in Chio. The kids were thrilled to try the traditional Canarian dishes, and I was grateful for the vegetarian options available. Sharing a meal with fellow travelers was a delightful way to start the evening, and it was heartwarming to see my children engage with new friends, learning about different cultures and cuisines. The restaurant’s warm atmosphere and the friendly chatter set the tone for the rest of the night.
Sunset Above the Clouds
After our meal, we continued our ascent up the mountain, driving through the dramatic landscapes of recent lava flows and dense forests. The excitement in the coach was infectious as we approached our sunset viewing spot at Parque Recreativo Pinar De Chio. Despite a few clouds, the sunset was nothing short of magical. Standing on a live volcano, watching the sun dip below the horizon, was a moment of awe and reflection for all of us.
The children were fascinated by the idea of being above the clouds, and the provided puffer jackets kept us warm as the temperature dropped. We sipped on cava and took in the breathtaking views, capturing memories with photos and time-lapse videos that we would cherish forever. It was a perfect blend of nature’s beauty and family bonding, a reminder of why I love sharing these experiences with my kids.
Stargazing Extravaganza
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the stargazing session at Mirador de las Narices del Teide. At an altitude of 2,140 meters, the night sky unfolded in all its glory. The team had set up several telescopes, and the kids were eager to take turns peering into the universe. We marveled at the Moon, the Orion Nebula, and Jupiter with its rings and moons.
Our guides, Kieran and Craig, were exceptional, weaving stories of mythology and science that captivated both the young and the old. John’s passion for astronomy was infectious, and his explanations made the night sky come alive for us. The free photographs taken by Craig were an unexpected bonus, capturing the magic of the night in stunning detail.
As we made our way back down the mountain, the kids were buzzing with excitement, their imaginations sparked by the wonders they had witnessed. This experience was not just a highlight of our trip to Tenerife but a reminder of the endless possibilities that travel offers for learning and growth. I highly recommend this Teide Adventure for families looking to create unforgettable memories under the stars.
