Join us for a unique view of Hilo town through a guided adventure on a kayak or paddle board! Two-hour, fully guided and narrated tours of Hilo Bay start from the dock behind the KapohoKine Adventures store. Our skilled and lifeguard certified guides will lead you through the fascinating history of this area, from the unexpected past of Moku Ola (coconut island) to the ever-changing topography of Hilo town. We’ll leisurely paddle along peaceful rivers and discover hidden waterfalls, beaches, and a hydroelectric plant, keeping our eyes peeled for friendly honu. Feel free to take a cooling plunge before returning to land. Water and a light snack will be provided.

Our tour check-in is located at the Grand NaniLoa Resort. Parking can be located across of the hotel at the golf course.
Once parked you will need to walk to the Main lobby of the Grand NaniLoa Hotel and we are located on the right side of the Main lobby.

💯 Would do it again! - Our guide (Montana) was the best. It was only our second time kayaking and she was patient with us. Now we can say we kayaked through a waterfall!

Hilo Kayaking Excursion - While the waterfall was not a part of our tour, we totally understand how dangerous it can be when there is so much rain falling. The time spent in the ice pool and a leisurely paddle was fantastic. We all enjoyed our time. Montana was a great tour guide.

Lovely morning on the water - We had a lovely morning on the waters of Hilo bay with Evan in January 2020. We were one of 2 couples, each sharing a double kayak. We kayaked across the bay to the Wailuku river and then headed up a short distance to a waterfall. Evan was a friendly informative guide. He showed my husband how to paddle the kayak right under the waterfall as I laughed and took photos from the front seat. Ended the morning with a light lunch and a chat in the grounds of the nearby hotel. Highly recommended.

Hilo from the Water. And a Turtle! - Our guide, Montana, was very knowledgeable about the area and the sea life in the area. We were lucky enough to see a sea turtle during the trip. It was fun and different to be able to see Hilo from the water instead of only walking around.
The only reason I am giving this trip a 4 instead of the 5 is weather related.

Be Prepared - Excellent guide! We kayaked with our teenage children. 2 unfortunately got motion sickness. Remember to take Dramamine before heading out!!

Not what we signed up for - We took this tour. When I called to inquire I was told that the bay was really calm because of the seawall. What I wasn't told was that the tour goes past the seawall to where the ocean waves come in so we'd have to time the waves and our paddling so that we don't crash into the bridge piers. We had to turn back. 2 people, one hour, 300 bucks. If you're an experienced kayaker take the tour but then again....if you're that experienced you don't need the tour.
