Well worth visiting; we highly recommend the tour. - You can just park in the car park, make a purchase at the small shop or cafe/bar, and look out over the salt lakes for free. But you can't get through the barrier and actually walk amongst the salt lakes and see them up close, nor get near to the lagoon, without the tour. Incidentally, it is also prohibited to approach the lagoon from the beach on the opposite side (there's another car park here too) as it's a protected area (the signs are rather small). I struggled to identify birds on the lagoon from the beach with just binoculars. I initially baulked at the 22 euros each fee for the tour; it seemed pricy. However, I'm really glad we went ahead. Our guide was an Italian lady called Sabrina who spoke both Spanish and English, and whose knowledge and enthusiasm were infectious. The (approx 90 minute) tour was so interesting, covering the production process, the history, the ecology and more. This information allows you to appreciate what you are seeing so much more, and the importance of the salinas to the island, and of the paying visitors to the salinas. Close to the lagoon, we were allowed to climb to the top of one of the wind powered water pumps for the best views. Here, I was also able to identify ruddy ducks and black winged stilt. Then we returned to the buildings for a tasting session - not only of their salt but of local wine, cheese and tomatoes from other producers. All wonderful. Surprising that salt can have such distinct flavour and textures! You also receive a complimentary packet of their salt to take home (looking forward to using that on some home grown padron peppers later this summer!), so you really do get your money's worth! Muchas gracias.

Great experience - We spent a very pleasant afternoon here, thanks to our guide Xus who spoke about the salina and its history with great enthusiasm and pride. The salina is beautiful from a distance, but it is only when you stand in the middle of it that you truly see its splendor. We therefore highly recommend everyone to book the guided tour.

We had a good time - Great visit, very interesting, our guide took the time, she even took photos of us regularly without being asked, adorable. Instructive history and splendid landscape! Visit which lasts 1h30 with the end tasting of cheese and tomato with different flower salts. And at the end he gives us a packet of salt as souvenirs each.

Estupendo / Delightful - A must do if you are in Lanzarote. I took the guided tour and enjoyed every minute of it. Not only the view is splendid, I learned also a lot about the sea salt production process. You get a degustation of different salt, wine and cheese after the tour. You even got a free gift. The tour guide as such a passionate guy so you get sucked into his story. Gracias Martin!

Great experience in Las Salinas with Martín! - Today we took the guided tour with Martín to the Salinas and it was a 100% recommendable experience. Martín not only knows how to explain concepts, but also transmits a passion and love for nature and the salt flats that is contagious. We are very happy with the experience and recommend it to everyone. We loved meeting Martín and the Artemia salina!!! Luis and Michela

Very informative! - Easy to book through Tripadvisor (Viator). We were on the system when we arrived and given our paper tickets. The lady who showed us around was very good. Lots of information about the past, present & future of Salinas de Janubio. We finished the 90 minute tour with a salt, cheese & wine tasting. We would definitely recommend this trip.

A spectacular place - We got to know the salt flats with a guided tour and ended with a tasting of cheese and wine from the area with a test of different salts on top of tomato. They currently exploit a fifth of the entire site. The information they provide during the visit, which lasts an hour or so, is very curious.
