• Old Town - The Old Town is not just the historical heart of Warsaw. It’s important to note that until the late 18th century, Warsaw consisted solely of the Old Town, known as Old Warsaw. The New Town, once called New Warsaw, was added later. These were originally two distinct cities, each with its own coat of arms: Old Warsaw had the Mermaid, and New Warsaw had the Lady with a Unicorn. During our tour, we will visit the column of King Sigismund III Vasa in front of the Royal Castle, which was once the residence of the Masovian dukes. From there, we will proceed to the Cathedral of St. John to view the tombs of the Masovian dukes. We will explore the Museum of Warsaw, where the historic mermaid, preserved from the Warsaw Uprising, is on display. We will walk through the Barbican, the former fortification that separated New and Old Warsaw, and see the historic bell at Kanonia Square. Finally, we will visit the Church of the Holy Cross to see Chopin’s heart embedded there.
