Highlights
  • Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna - Built by Emperor Franz Joseph to house the splendid imperial collections, it is now one of the world’s most important museums. Artefacts from ancient Egypt to classical antiquity to the late 18th century document the patronage and connoisseurship of the art-loving members of the House of Habsburg. In the Picture Gallery you can see celebrated master-pieces by Rubens, Rembrandt, Raphael, Vermeer, Velázquez, Titian and Durer, as well as the world’s largest collection of works by Bruegel. At the Kunstkammer Vienna goldsmith’s works such as the famous saliera by Benvenuto Cellini, sculptural masterpieces, filigree works in ivory, valuable timepieces and complex automata by the best and most famous artists of the day – each item unique in the world – provide an unrivalled cross-section through the history of art. Equally enjoyable for every art-lover is the magnificent building itself with its imposing staircase featuring a series of paintings on which Gustav Klimt collaborated.

Gorgeous - If there are only one or two museums to visit, with Albertina, this is one of them, already for its prodigious collection of Brueghel, then for the quality of the other works presented

Lots to see, bring time - Sooooo much to see. And in the end, it's just too much for one visit. Paintings, objects and then the Egyptian section... we were out and about for 4 hours and were a bit exhausted at the end. It would be better to spend one day looking at paintings and a second day looking at objects. All in all, a must. Be careful, there are also combination tickets if you want to go to the Leopold Museum, for example.

A beautiful, Must visit museum in Vienna - This museum is a must if one is interested in Art and history. The building is beautiful inside. One would need a couple of hours as there are 2 sections. The café is worth reserving for as one is enjoying coffee or breakfast in a beautiful historic museum. Make sure you are early there ( especially if you have reserved at the restaurant) as there is a long queue usually.

Priority to “kunstkammer Vienna” rooms - A beautiful classic and eclectic collection of arts perfectly showcased. The most breathtaking for my taste (and not found in other museums in Europe): the wonders collected by the Hasbourgs

Gorgeous ! - The Natural History Museum of Vienna, in German Naturhistorisches Museum Wien, is one of the largest Austrian museums. It was built to house the very rich Habsburg natural history collections.

Nice - Had a great day. Beautiful building, beautiful works. It's a pity that some of the pieces we wanted to see were on loan

Very peculiar - Modern art I'm fine with, but video gag photos on display get boring very quickly. Plus no plan, app that doesn't work... we stayed 10 minutes.

Don't book online, buy it on site - Don't book online, buy it directly on site, because it doesn't save you from queuing. Their management is very chaotic, there are no instructions, first queue up to enter, then be stopped, and ask you to go to the ticket office to queue up to exchange tickets, queue up to the ticket office, the ticket seller asks you to go to the information desk, the information desk is inside the ticket gate, how can I get in without a ticket? This is a paradox. Then you queue up again, communicate with the staff at the ticket gate, and they will let you in, and then you will meet the arrogant staff at the information desk. You complain to them, they will say, why did you book tickets online? The experience is terrible, buying tickets on site would have allowed you to enter long ago, not only did it not save time, but it wasted time.
