Highlights
  • Vrysochori - The monument to the proud women of the Pindos
In November 1940, the Greek soldiers had been fortified in the mountains and were fighting in the area of
    Vrysochori.
Due to the distance from Zagori, the nearest village, they faced serious problems with their supply of ammunition food and water, however. The women of Zagori actively participated in the war with their timely supplies to the Greek forces that were fighting to stop the fascist invaders, who were trying to reach Metsovo through the valley of Aoos.
  • Stone Forest - Drive through the unique Stone forest of Monodendri
  • Vikos Gorge - Oxia - Balkony of Vikos Gorge
  • Monodendri - Walk to the Monastery of Agia Paraskevi
  • Monodendri - Enjoy a traditionally chicken pie at the stonebuild Monodendri hotel.
  • Kokkori Bridge - Bridge of Kokkori and Kalogeriko
  • Bridge of Plakidas - Plakidas bridge is spotted close to Kipi and Koukouli villages in the area of Central Zagori. For years on end it served the residents of the two villages in their transportation and rural activities. It stands out for its unique architecture, as it is one of the few three-stringer bridges that exist, so there is no wonder that it is one of the most photographed bridges in Zagori. In the beginning the bridge was wooden, however with the contribution of Serafeim, the abbot of Kipi’s Monastery, it was reconstructed with stone. Because of that, the bridge was named “Kalogeriko”, which means “of the abbot”. After 1865 it was repaired by Alexis Plakidas, to whom it owes its current name.

Don't miss - I booked this as a last minute trip and I am so glad we did. The gorge is absolutely stunning and the walk to the view point is through beautiful woodland. I would also recommend taking the trek to the tiny monastery which is really special and again provides another view point of the gorge. To finish the day we visited ancient bridges which gave another perspective of the area. All together a rather brilliant way to see this unexplored part of Greece. And Yvonna was a really chatty and informative guide. I'd urge you to go if you are in the area.
