Ascend a slim flight of stairs to gain access to the Radha Vallabh Temple and encounter the Jal Saanjhi craftsperson. The subject matter of these artworks includes various facets of Lord Krishna’s life, like his nativity and the assassination of Kansa. Observing these creations is comparable to witnessing a spectacle of wonder materialize before your eyes. Boiled liquid is poured into a shallow container and scattered with a mix of clandestine components to form an ephemeral platform. Then the craftsman meticulously applies historical patterns via stencils over two centuries old, accompanied by an array of special hues to conjure artistry on the buoyant plane. The most challenging bit is delicately extracting the stencils from the aqueous medium without marring the masterpiece. As the application of additional pigments and motifs continues, the complexity of the task amplifies, demanding prodigious skill. Upon completion, the creator stirs the waters with his hand, sending the image into a gentle undulation. Each depiction is transient, existing for merely a day before the colors dissolve. This ephemeral form of art is displayed within the temple confines during select spiritual events.
