- Front of Asakusa - Fulfill your childhood aspirations by donning a hakama and embarking on a samurai history journey (exclusively at the samurai and ninja museum). Engage in the ancient art of Tameshigiri by slicing through tatami mats with an authentic samurai blade.\n\nThis age-old practice of test cutting, known as Tameshigiri, originated as a martial discipline, essential for samurai to hone their abilities, particularly during peacetime. Tameshigiri serves to evaluate the craftsmanship of the samurai sword as well as the wielder’s skill. Various materials, such as thin steel, rice straw, and tatami mats, are used to assess the precision of the cuts. In this activity, you’ll cut through tatami mats constructed from bamboo, as depicted in the image.\n\nParticipants must be at least 18 years old.

Sword Cutting Experience, learning how to properly use a katana, learning how to use a Ninja Star, learning the history! - I’ve always wanted to hold a Katana! I have always loved the culture and always wanted to learn how to swing a sword! This was amazing I was able to cut with the sword!

Interesting and fun - Excellent museum with really interesting pieces and friendly, knowledgable staff. I did the museum part and sword cutting experience which was handled completely professionally and safely. Very much enjoyed the whole experience and would recommend to anyone visiting the area if you're interested in samurai history.

A must try for first timers in Japan. - Very excellent samurai cutting session. Ryo sensei was very patient in teaching us how to swing the sword correctly. After his tutelage, I manages to fully cut the tatami pole the firsrt try!

Samurai Sword Cutting Experience in Tokyo - Tameshigiri (Includes The Museum Ticket) - We had an amazing time at the Samurai Sword Cutting Experience in Tokyo - Tameshigiri (Includes The Museum Ticket). First we could try on Samurai armors. Then they told us all about the history of Samurais and Ninjas. The Ninja star throwing was great as well! But the best part was obviously the Sword Cutting. We got a great instruction (I felt really safe) and were able to actually cut through a rolled up tatami mat. What a thrill! Thank you very much for everything!

great learning experience - We weren’t sure initially, but we learned a lot about the history of the ninjas and the samurai. Dressing up and taking pictures was fun too. Overall would recommend it. I came with my nine year old son and he really enjoyed it.
