Strendur is linked to Runavík and Tórshavn via the Eysturoyartunnilin, the Faroe Islands’ longest underwater tunnel. The tunnel is notable for housing the world’s first underwater roundabout. Strendur’s shoreline marks the tunnel’s entrance. In Strendur, we plan to stop at Snældan, a local yarn enterprise where there will be opportunities to purchase Faroe-based knitwear and yarn produced in-house.
We will be heading northwards through Skálafjørð and ascend to the tunnel leading to Sundalagið. A stroll across the bridge from Eysturoy to Streymoy is an option for those interested.
Our journey continues to Tórshavn where we will explore the city’s historic sector. Following that, we move on to Kirkjubø, Streymoy’s southernmost village. Here, we will see the relics of the Magnus Cathedral dating back to the 1300s, the 12th century-built Saint Olav’s Church, and the 11th-century Kirkjubøargarður farmhouse.
