Surfing the Sweet Side of St. Lucia: A Hot Chocolate Adventure
When the waves called me to St. Lucia, I found myself on a different adventure with the Hot Chocolate Tour. Guided by the legendary Sweet Chocolate, I explored the island’s lush landscapes, tasted local delights, and discovered the true essence of island life.
A Sweet Start to the Day
As a former professional surfer, I’ve always been drawn to the ocean’s call, but this time, I found myself on a different kind of adventure in St. Lucia. My partner and I decided to take a break from the waves and explore the island’s lush landscapes with the Hot Chocolate Tour. Our guide, affectionately known as Sweet Chocolate, was a local legend, and her vibrant personality set the tone for the day.
We kicked off the tour with a visit to a local banana plantation. As someone who spends a lot of time in the Caribbean, I thought I knew bananas, but the local twist of banana ketchup and barbecue sauce was a delightful surprise. Sweet Chocolate’s connections with the locals were evident as we were welcomed with open arms and warm smiles. It was a perfect start to our island exploration.
Immersed in Nature’s Wonders
The tour took us through charming towns and the heart of the rainforest, where every turn offered a new breathtaking view. As a travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for those perfect photo ops, and St. Lucia did not disappoint. The Pitons stood majestically in the distance, and we made several stops to capture their beauty.
One of the highlights was the mud bath at Sulphur Springs. The warm, mineral-rich mud left our skin feeling rejuvenated, and washing it off under the Toraille Waterfall was an exhilarating experience. It was a reminder of the simple joys of nature, something I often find while riding the waves.
A Taste of St. Lucia
Lunch at the Beacon Restaurant was a feast for the senses. The homemade dishes, crafted by local hands, were as delicious as the panoramic views of the island. Sweet Chocolate’s recommendation to try the chocolate chip cookies at the Cacoa Sainte Lucie chocolate factory was spot on. I couldn’t resist indulging in a few more than planned.
The day wrapped up with a visit to a rum distillery, where we sampled a variety of local rums. It was the perfect way to end a day filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable experiences. As we headed back, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to explore St. Lucia beyond its beaches. This tour was a reminder that the island’s true beauty lies in its people, culture, and natural wonders. I can’t wait to return and dive deeper into its treasures.
