Highlights
  • Park and National Palace of Pena - Included visit to the palace
  • Centro Historico de Sintra - Free time for lunch and also discover the most romantic Portuguese village.
  • Adega Regional de Colares - In 1931 the Regional Wine Cellar of Colares was founded, which currently gathers more than 50% of the region’s production and more than 90% of the producers. For more than 80 years, this Cooperative has been a social function of great importance in the agricultural activity of the Region. It produces wines of the Denomination of Controlled Origin of Colares, Regional Extremadura and Table Wine, adapted to any occasion.

The current building is original, imposing when viewed from the outside and dazzling by its interior dimension. In the main building there is a large set of tons of enormous dimensions in which the wines produced by the winery age.

  • Cabo da Roca - The westernmost point of Europe “where the earth ends and the sea begins”.

It is the most western point of the European continent, located at the extreme end of the Serra de Sintra,

“the point where the land ends and the sea begins”, as Lus de Cames wrote (in Os Lusadas, Canto III). Roca is also called

“Focinho da Roca” by people connected to things of the sea, and more poetically by

“Promontrio da Lua”.

When we approach the place, coming from the village of Azia, we start by sighting the Lighthouse, at 165 meters of altitude and dating from 1772; then the gaze turns to the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean revealing one of the most emblematic places in Portugal. It is the open-hearted confrontation with the sea. You breathe hard, you feel the entire weight of the continent on your back, while your eyes are opened to the invitation of the ocean. It is in Cabo da Roca that the expression “stone raft” takes on all its meaning.

Excellent Private Tour! - Pick up was right on time. Antonio Catarino of LRS was a great driver and provided a lot of interesting and laughable moments during the day. Stops along way going into Sintra were beautiful to see along with the Wine stop, very informative indeed! Would certainly recommend Antonio!

Unnecessarily long queues - 400 tickets sold for each time slot and only 1 person checking palace entry tickets. Could easily be stood queuing for an hour or more. Not acceptable for anyone with mobility issues particularly if hot. Likewise the queue for the terrace cafeteria was also very long as only 1 person serving in there. Guided groups should stand to the side when having something explained to allow others to go passed as they caused huge delays behind them. These problems could so easily be rectified and make the experience more far more enjoyable

Very overrated and we thought not worth it - The outside of the palace is an odd and mildly interesting mix of several architectural styles. The inside is mostly very ho-hum furnishings that are not very interesting. We thought not worth the effort of getting there and moving slowly through the house in a crowd. I recommend looking careful at some photos of the interior before you decide if it's worth the trip there.
