From Waves to Waterfalls: A Day at Arenal Volcano
Trading surfboards for scenic views, my wife and I embarked on the Arenal Volcano Tour, a day filled with coffee, waterfalls, and hot springs. Join us as we explore the lush landscapes of Costa Rica, guided by the ever-enthusiastic Harlen.
A Scenic Journey to Arenal
The day began with a gentle nudge from the sun, peeking through the curtains of our hotel room in San José. My wife and I, always on the lookout for new adventures, decided to take a break from the waves and explore the lush landscapes of Costa Rica. The Arenal Volcano Tour promised a day filled with nature, culture, and relaxation, and we were eager to dive in.
Our guide, Harlen, greeted us with a warm smile as we boarded the van. His enthusiasm was infectious, and as we picked up fellow travelers from various hotels, he laid out the day’s itinerary with a twinkle in his eye. Our first stop was a coffee plantation, a short but sweet visit that offered a glimpse into the world of Costa Rican coffee. As a surfer, I’m used to early mornings, and a good cup of coffee is always a welcome companion. The rich aroma and the stunning views made for a perfect start to the day.
Waterfalls and Wildlife
Next on the agenda was the breathtaking La Paz Waterfall. Nestled within a natural garden reserve, the waterfall cascaded down with a force that mirrored the power of the ocean waves I so often chase. While swimming wasn’t allowed, the beauty of the place was more than enough to satisfy our adventurous spirits. Harlen, with his keen eye, pointed out various wildlife along the way, and his passion for nature was evident in every word he spoke.
The journey continued with a stop at the San Fernando Waterfall lookout point, where we sipped on freshly brewed coffee while watching toucans and hummingbirds flit about. It was a moment of pure tranquility, a reminder of the simple joys that nature offers. Harlen’s knack for spotting wildlife was impressive, and he even shared some of his stunning photographs with us later.
Soaking in the Springs
As the day unfolded, we made our way to the Paradise Hot Springs Resort. The warm, mineral-rich waters were a soothing balm for our travel-weary bodies. Surrounded by lush tropical gardens, it was easy to lose track of time as we soaked in the pools, letting the warmth seep into our bones. While I might have preferred a bit more time exploring the waterfalls, the hot springs offered a different kind of relaxation, one that was much needed after a day of exploration.
Dinner that evening was a delightful affair, with local flavors that danced on our taste buds. It was a fitting end to a day that had been both invigorating and relaxing. As we made our way back to San José, Harlen’s stories and laughter filled the van, leaving us with memories that would linger long after the trip was over.
The Arenal Volcano Tour was a beautiful reminder of the diverse landscapes and experiences that Costa Rica has to offer. Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or a first-time visitor, this tour is a must-do, offering a taste of the country’s natural beauty and cultural richness.
