How Nice! How Nice! - We had a great trip with Brett the Aussie turned Austrian. Loved his descriptions and his gusto. Very professional at the same time and very kind and engaging. Enjoyed the trip down the salt mines and the slides (two of em) and the trip to the town of Bertesgarten (lovely bakery there, only one I think, with two lovely ladies which had some delicious apple cake). Highly recommended.

Must Do! - Leave time to get there 15 minutes early as there could be a line to pick up your voucher from Viator to get on your tour bus. We booked this tour with Panorama tour company after we did the Sound of Music tour with them the day before which was also excellent. We had a small group of 8 in a van take us to the salt mines which also included a mini tour of Salzburg town and it was cloudy so it was hard to see the full Bavarian Mountains, but our tour guide tried for us and we appreciate it. No eating or drinking in the car as the cars do need quick turn arounds for tours throughout the day and close quarters probably would help prevent any allergic reactions as well. Once reaching the salt mine the tour guide helped us through the line and getting our gear on. No photos allowed in the salt mine at all and there are cameras to ensure no photos are taken. Highly suggest going to the bathroom before getting your gear on. I regretted not going once in the salt mines. Be prepared to walk down stairs if you don’t want to use the slides. The tour is in German; however, they offer audio guides in other languages. We had a quick turnover time once finished to get a quick souvenir/buy a photo, use the bathroom, grab our stuff from a locker (uses a 1/2€ coin you get back at the end) then we were quickly shuffled onto the minivan to then head to Berchtesgaden, Germany for some free time approximately 40 minutes. So bring your PASSPORT just encase. If you want more time to wander the salt mines cafe and viewing area and longer at Berchtesgaden then I suggest a longer tour than this one, but our tour guide did mention to us we could take the public bus back to Salzburg if we wanted, too! During this time we tried some German Schnapps at the place recommended by the tour guide and chocolates (10 minutes) with liquor in them. Bought a postcard and magnet (10 minutes). We also went up to the Panorama Restaurant (15 minutes) there for a German beer which even though it was a cloudy rainy day it was still beautiful! Then it was time to head back to the drop off point. It was a quiet bus ride back as we drove back the same way we came and our tour guide had to get back in time for some of the group to make the other sound of music tour. Panorama tour bus meeting point is right near Mirabell Gardens and the yellow (different company— Salzburg hop on hop off) not a huge fan of that tour company as many reviews were relevant to some issues we experienced).

Amazing time Thanks Walter - What an amazing experience we had. If you are going to be in Salzburg, take this tour. Walter was amazing! We had a wonderful day with him. Part of the fun is getting there and Walter provided so much history and insight as we drove through town and then through the hills. It was informative, fun, and scenic.

Fun, excitement and education at the Salt mine! - Super impressed by the tour guide, cute old Austrian guy fluent in English, funny and charming(Walter), nice tour of the Alps, the drive by of the eagles nest and history was nice. The salt mine itself was very impressive. They had created fun, excitement, education deep underground. Strongly recommend to families with kids and also adults. Very well organized activity.

Great tour if you are looking for a unique experience - This is a very interesting and different experience from all of the historical tours. The mine is well lit and ventilated so should not bother you unless you have extreme claustrophobia. We even had a stop to lookout at the Eagles Nest even though it was not included on this excursion. Please note that this tour crosses from Austria into Germany so be sure to bring your passport in case border control decides to have a spot check. We were not provided with this info until we were part way there on the van. Luckily no one was checking that day. This is my reason for four stars instead of five.

A trip through the alps and slides - The trip is worthwhile because it enabled exploration of the alps and ventured into Bavaria, which was lovely. The mine was fun. We were the only 2 English visitors in an entire load of Germans, so we had to rely on the audio guide only. The 2 slides are excellent and a bit scary and we loved the mirror lake. A good afternoon and the driver was safe.

Send the guide into retirement! - We were in the mine yesterday, the highlight was definitely the slide and the ride on the train. Unfortunately, the guide was getting on in years and just recited everything in a bored manner as if he wasn't interested. I would have preferred an audio guide. For €54 + €4 parking, we found it a bit thin
