Highlights
  • Val d’Orcia - Embark on a journey from Rome to the enchanting Val d’Orcia region, close to Siena, as part of a Tuscan excursion. Set off in a deluxe motorcoach, departing from Rome to the picturesque, undulating landscapes of Tuscany.
  • Montepulciano - The first destination is Montepulciano, a municipality celebrated for its exquisite wine and vistas. This Renaissance-era hilltop town is famed for crafting Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a robust red wine. Gain insights on a guided stroll and uncover its treasures, including the clock tower reminiscent of Florence, the incomplete cathedral front, ancient wine cellars, and the historic town fortifications.
  • Tempio di San Biagio - Delve into the splendor of the Church of St. Biagio. This sanctuary represents a remarkable fusion of Renaissance artistic expression and the Tuscan countryside’s allure, situated amidst a stunning panorama of Tuscan hills. The church showcases a Greek cross central plan typical of the Renaissance and influenced the initial designs of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome by Bramante and Michelangelo.

After stimulating your senses, enjoy a group luncheon amid the vineyards. Experience the reasons behind Tuscany’s fame as Italy’s premier wine-producing area with a classic three-course meal complemented by a selection of local wines, including the internationally acclaimed Brunello di Montalcino.

  • Historic Centre of the City of Pienza - Proceed from the farmstead to Pienza, a UNESCO World Heritage Site within the region. Here, you’ll have up to 45 minutes of leisure to wander. The town’s design was the brainchild of Pope Pius II, who aspired to transform his hometown’s appearance. Marvel at the historic core that reflects the pope’s original plan and the abundance of splendid architecture. For those with a penchant for gastronomy, peruse the shops for Pienza’s celebrated pecorino cheese.
  • Pienza - Take time to meander through Pienza, indulge in local food and wine shopping, capture memories with your camera, and savor gelato.

Finally, journey back to Rome in a climate-controlled vehicle, feeling content, at ease, and prepared for the upcoming day.

Great way to see more of Italy - This was a wonderful part of our trip to Italy, and we would definitely do it again. The sights along the trip are stunning, and the tour makes good use of time to fit a lot into the day. Anna was our guide and she was funny and kind and gave lots of good information and tips. Our guide through Montepulciano was also really great — she was mindful of the hills and difficulty our group had walking and took her time, which was very nice. The lunch was very good and bury filling, and we enjoyed the history and welcome from the family. Advice for lunch: servers move quickly and weren’t very careful - my partner had both wine and olive oil spilled on him. So, wear clothes you won’t mind getting stained or that you’re not planning to wear later in trip just in case.

Great Experience! - Loved being in the countryside. Little towns were adorable. Fun shopping. Lunch was tasty. Toilet break store outbound and return was handy for potty time, but I overspent on stuff I should have just bought at the grocery store. It is a long day, 7:30a-7:30p, but worthwhile. You can nap on the bus a bit. Barbara was great! Coffee with cinnamon at Montepulciano was delicious.

Not recommended - I would not recommend this tour. The initial meeting point was very confusing. We had to ask numerous people where our group was, it was not clear where to meet. Our tickets were not actually checked. Clear instructions prior to the morning would have made the process smooth. The trip was delayed due to another couple attending the wrong tour so there were not enough seat on the bus for everyone (not surprising as tickets were not checked). The bus was warm and winding roads, not recommended if you are sensitive to motion sickness). The tour was more geared toward bringing us to purchasing/shopping areas. A delicious but small lunch with wine provided, not quite enough food for a 12+ hour tour, bring snacks. We would have appreciated the option to sit on our own. Our tour guide was very kind and funny though. This tour was not worth the $$$ we paid.

So so - Tour was great. Montepuliciano was beautiful. Only downside was the restaurant we stopped to eat. We were warned by the tour guide that the wait staff was stern. No. They were more rude. Granted there were a large number of people. But that’s their job. Their contract with the tour company. They need to change restaurants or have a little talk with the waiter staff and servers.
