  • The settlement exhibition - Our next stop is the oldest graveyard in Reykjavik which is in front of the Settlement Museum. There we learn how to summon a Zombie or ghost to do your bidding
  • The settlement exhibition - Our 3d stop is a secret Elf-stone or Elf home close to the Settlement museum. There we visit the Elves of Iceland and some of their stories

DISCOVER THE MYTHICAL CREATURES OF ICELAND

Commonly known as land of the Sagas, Iceland invites you on a magical journey filled with fascinating stories about its hidden folk and creatures.

The Mysterious Elves & Trolls of Iceland

Unearth the myths and tales of Icelandic elves and trolls, spectral beings such as the Dark River Deacon, peculiar mostly water-dwelling beasts, the 13 Santas (because having just one Santa Claus isn’t enough in Iceland!) their mother, the child-devouring troll named Grýla, and lastly, delve into the story of Iceland’s only known serial killer in a place where getting lost among the lava fields is a common occurrence.

The Art of Storytelling

During the extended winter nights in Iceland, storytelling emerged as the primary form of entertainment. This passion for stories explains why Icelanders adore books and boast the highest literacy rate globally.

Location
Ingólfur Square
Austurstræti
We meet by the two stone pillars with smoke coming up from the top in the middle of Ingolfur Square. We recommend using Google maps or something similar as the Icelandic street names can be quite tricky. If you are visiting us in December we meet in front of Center Hotel Plaza

Great Walking Tour - This was a wonderful walking tour. We met at a central location in town. The walk itself was paced well for our slower going group. Our guide was well versed in Icelandic mythology and folk tales. He was a great story teller; acting out parts of the story and keeping us in stitches. Highly recommended.

Amazing tour! - We had so much fun, and learned so much about the history and folklore of Reykjavic and Iceland. Our guide was knowledgeable and she kept us entertained during our snowy walk. My husband and I highly recommend taking one of their city tours! Be sure to where comfortable footwear and warm clothing!

Eerie and macabre stories told passionately in a fun and engaging tour - We had a brilliant tour around the town, being told some fantastic, eerie ghost, troll and elf stories, snippers if history and local insight. Haider was lovely, and made us feel great about everything, seeming to go out of his way to make sure we enjoyed the tour, and got what we wanted. Thank you.

Iceland's other history - Einar was a very entertaining and informative guide. If you're interested in a 'tour with a difference', then I recommend this tour to learn about the elves (hidden people), ghosts and trolls of Iceland.

Entertaining and historically interesting - We had a great trip and our guide was a wonderful storyteller. My favorite story was about the elves who negotiated a move to make way for a highway project. Their rock home now has a prime spot in the center of Reykjavik!

Know the personal Iceland, past and present - Stefan was marvelous! Aside from the expected (but nonetheless entertaining) traditional tales and beliefs, he inserted fascinating facts ranging linguistics in Nordic languages to Icelandic history and naming practices to his own perspective on being Icelandic. After spending just short of two hours with him, we felt we knew not just traditional but contemporary Iceland, its challenges, and its unique opportunities. A totally worthwhile experience.

Tales of elves and trolls - Stefan was our guide, and he brought the folklore alive with his dialogue. He also has the most beautiful voice, he sang us a lullaby. It was a most enjoyable walking tour.

Authentic and Amazing small group and private Iceland tours - Loved our experience with Your Friends in Reykjavik! My family and I celebrated Xmas in Iceland this years and worked with Your Friends in Reykjavik to setup several different tours. We had a private folklore and food tour, a private golden circle + snorkeling tour, northern lights tour, and a semi-private Katla Ice cave tour. Everything was excellent and I can't say enough good things about this group. From the communication and setup before the trip, to the last minute changes we had with travel delays, to the kindness of the tour guides we spent time with and shared local foods with over the holiday season. We had so much fun taking pictures with them and loved the photo album we received from Your Friends in Reykjavik at the end of each tour. We appreciated the semi-private and private tour options and the fact that many of their group tours were smaller sized. It was a great way to explore the city and experience the culture and we would highly recommend this group to anyone looking for an authentic and intimate experience in Iceland.

Folklore walking tour - We had an incredible and very interesting time during our Folkore walking tour. The tour guide knew very much about the history of the city and told us all about the beginning of the city/country.

Zombies & Elves - Booked this tour as a last minute addition to our trip. Our guide was Styrmir. It was something a little bit different and took us to parts of the city we would not have seen otherwise. Learnt some interesting facts & folklore including why you cannot now plant a tree on a grave!
