From the moment we arrived, the warmth and hospitality of the father-son duo, Mr. Juan and Randall, enveloped us like a comforting embrace. Their ranch, a family legacy spanning over 85 years, is nestled amidst rolling hills that gently lead to the ocean, offering a breathtaking view that sets the tone for the day.

Our journey began with a refreshing ride through the ranch’s lush fields, where cattle grazed peacefully and birds flitted about, adding a symphony of natural sounds to the serene landscape. The highlight, however, was the patch of rainforest they are lovingly rehabilitating. Here, we encountered the vibrant hues of poison dart frogs and the ethereal beauty of a blue morpho butterfly, its wings catching the sunlight like a vision from a dream. It was a reminder of the delicate balance of nature and the importance of preserving such wonders.

The adventure continued with a short hike through the jungle, where Mr. Juan and Randall shared their deep knowledge of the local flora and fauna. We were treated to a traditional Costa Rican meal, known as ‘casado,’ which we enjoyed while taking in the spectacular views of the jungle. From offering chilled fruit during our ride to picking cashew fruit straight from the tree, their thoughtful gestures made us feel like part of their family. Even a minor mishap with our lunch order was handled with such sincerity and concern that it only added to the charm of the experience.
