Unforgettable Family Fun: Sailing to Papagayo Beaches in Lanzarote
Eager to find a family-friendly adventure in Lanzarote, I set sail from Puerto Calero on a catamaran trip to Papagayo beaches. Join me as I recount the unforgettable day filled with pirate fun, snorkeling, and a thrilling jet ski ride.
Setting Sail from Puerto Calero
As a travel writer and a mother of three, I’m always on the lookout for family-friendly adventures that promise both fun and learning. Our recent trip to Lanzarote led us to the charming marina of Puerto Calero, where we embarked on what turned out to be the highlight of our holiday: a catamaran sailing trip to the stunning Papagayo beaches.
The day began with a short, scenic coach ride from our hotel to the Catlanza base. The kids were thrilled to explore the quaint harbor shops and take in the vibrant atmosphere of Puerto Calero. Once aboard the catamaran, we were greeted with warm smiles and a lighthearted safety briefing. The crew’s humor and friendliness set the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable afternoon on the water.
Adventures on the High Seas
The catamaran offered plenty of space for everyone to find their perfect spot, whether it was lounging in the sun or enjoying the shade. My children were particularly excited about the pirate-themed activities. The crew handed out bandanas and temporary tattoos, transforming the kids into little pirates ready for adventure. My youngest, an aspiring pirate himself, was over the moon to keep his bandana as a souvenir.
As we sailed towards the Papagayo beaches, the kids couldn’t wait to try out the slide into the crystal-clear waters. The snorkeling gear provided was a hit, and they spent hours exploring the underwater world. The highlight for my eldest was undoubtedly the jet ski ride. Inspired by Alejandro, the friendly crew member who led the rides, he declared his new ambition to learn Spanish and become a jet ski instructor.
A Memorable Return
After a delightful swim and some sunbathing, we were treated to a delicious lunch on board. The pasta and salad were fresh and flavorful, providing the perfect fuel for our journey back. As we made our way home, Captain Francis ensured the return trip was just as exciting, with a bumpy ride that had the kids squealing with delight at the front of the boat.
Reflecting on the day, I can confidently say that this catamaran trip was not only a fantastic family outing but also an incredible value for money. It was an afternoon filled with laughter, adventure, and unforgettable memories. For families visiting Lanzarote, this is an experience not to be missed. And while I usually prefer exploring new destinations, this trip has certainly earned a spot on our list for a repeat visit.
