A Journey Through Time and Taste

Our adventure began at the bustling S. Bento Station in Porto, where we met our guide, Hanae. Her warm smile and infectious enthusiasm set the tone for the day. As a former schoolteacher, I appreciated her ability to weave history and humor into her storytelling, making the journey both educational and entertaining for my three kids.

Our first stop was Amarante, a charming town nestled by the river Tâmega. The kids were fascinated by the story of St. Gonçalo, the town’s patron saint, who built a bridge over the river in the 13th century. The 55-minute ride on a traditional Rabelo boat was a peaceful escape, allowing us to soak in the breathtaking views of the vineyards and wine farms lining the riverbanks. The absence of commentary was a blessing, as it allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the experience.

The kids enjoyed spotting birds and waving to other boats, while I took a moment to reflect on the day’s adventures. The combination of history, culture, and natural beauty made this trip a memorable experience for the whole family.
