Additional Information

Only recently, the communities in the Lelepa Region have created an intriguing guided tour, lasting an entire day, to Artok or Hat Island, the sacred communal burial grounds of Chief Roi Mata and fifty plus persons who joined him in his journey to the afterlife. Post the burial of Roi Mata, around four centuries ago, the island was declared forbidden for habitation. Upholding this restriction for over four hundred years has resulted in a unique ecosystem on the island, serving as a sanctuary for numerous uncommon and endemic species of flora and fauna. Visitors are offered a one-of-a-kind day-long excursion filled with insights into the World Heritagae merits of this breathtaking island and its abundant cultural and environmental legacy. Included in this tour are lunch and transport in a fully air-conditioned vehicle.

Love the History - Its not until you here the story behind Chief Roi Mata that you realise why the Vanuatu people have called this a Heritage Site. I good look back in History

Thought we were going to see the Hat... -
Thought we were going to see the Hat island. It was not part of the tour. Although the guides were very nice, the only good part of the tour was going into the cave. Not worth the money paid.
