Additional Information

Known as the ‘Holy City’, Hierapolis is a historical city of the Greco-Roman era nestled in Phrygia on thermal springs, situated in the southwest region of Anatolia. Its remnants stand side by side with contemporary Pamukkale. Hierapolis enjoys the status of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Since the 2nd Century B.C.E., its thermal springs served as a wellness spa where people sought relief for their health conditions, often spending their last days or passing away here. Some notable attractions include its expansive necropolis brimming with sarcophagi, the main boulevard featuring gates and latrines, the cathedral, the theatre, and the tomb of St. Philips. The thermal springs trigger waterfalls, popularly referred to as the Cotton Castle. Despite the journey from Antalya requiring a bit of an early start, the unique experience is well worth it. The tour highlights delve into exploring Hierapolis and Pamukkale while being part of a small group under a guide, osmosis in the mineral-infused thermal waters of the Kleopatra Pool, and includes a lunch treat and admission to Pamukkale sites. Highly recommended! Has something for everyone. - Great tour, tour guide and driver! Our tour guide, Bekir, was knowledgeable and shared interesting bits of history and facts along the way. You get more out of the tour if you ask him questions. I really appreciated his more flexible approach to the tour - he managed to fit in optional activities like paragliding, hot air balloon, onyx factory/store, textile outlet and winery for those who were interested. Of course this meant that those who went for the last 2 activities had to sacrifice a little bit of time at Pamukkale and Hierapolis itself. The paragliding and hot air balloon were done before lunch. Those who weren’t interested did a tour of the nearby town and lake. If you’re interested in the hot air balloon, you’ll need to let the company know when you book. This is a separate cost. The paragliding was arranged on the day itself and cost about €65 per person (prices will vary based on season and the economy); you can choose to purchase the GoPro video and photos for an additional €40 (do note you can take your own). I would also recommend this cos you get an amazing aerial view of Hierapolis. Anyway, back to Bekir, he looked after us really well and made sure everyone enjoyed the trip (imo). Leo, our driver, also shared some interesting anecdotes from his experience with the area. As for Pamukkale itself, it was a little less spectacular than I imagined but still worth the trip. I assume you’d have a better chance of getting photos with fewer background people if you stayed in Denizli itself and headed out really early. Most of the tour buses from Antalya would reach there around 10/11am and leave around 4/5pm. I would 100% recommend a dip in Cleopatra’s pool (in low season) which is filled with the warm thermal waters. If you’re a little icky about algae tho, a warning, there is algae. No towels provided or available for rental so you need to bring your own, along with swimwear. They should really start a towel rental business. Overall, would highly recommend this tour. Thank you Bekir and Leo for making it such an enjoyable experience.

Worth visiting - Amazing place to you must not miss to visit if Türkiye in bucket list. We had planned a whole day tour from Antalya (5am to 7pm). Hierapolis structures and White clouds of Pamukkale really makes visit worth. Also seen Balloon ride and paragliding options.

Beautiful place - I booked with Bookfromlocals Antalya, originally went with them in Feb 23 then again march 24. Great trip and really helpful tour guides who look after you and give you great history of the visiting place and of Turkey in general. Thermal pools beautiful and can highly recommend the relaxing cleopatras pool. I almost had the whole pool to myself because it wasn’t busy at the time, very lovely experience.

If you are in Anatonia you must visit Hierapolis-Pamukkale - A thoroughly enjoyable day trip to Hierapolis-Pamukkale. Well organised, on time, and with a great guide and driver. Mehmet was a very knowledgable guide who really enjoyed passing on the story of Hierapolis to his group., Quite a drive up from Antalya, but a decent mini bus with plenty of space allowed people to relax. A breakfast break and then lunch just prior to exploring the sites ensured all in good spirits. Fascinating site, with a lot to see, so we did hurry a bit. Probably could spend many hours looking round, but driven the timing of the shuttle. You have to way up looking around the ruins for longer and a shorter time exploring the Pamukkale a series of petrified waterfalls and a series of terraced basins. To be honest Mehmet seemed to have it just right. All in all a great day

Overeated tour, it was good to explore a new place, but we felt lack of information in such a rich environment. - In my opinion the Pamukkale tours are overrated for what you do and what it’s provided by the company. The place of Hierapolis and Pamukkale it’s enormous and to be able to explore most of it you need at least 4 hours. At the beginning of the tour we were provided with some important information but not all vital information about the place. Then you are exploring by yourself. There is so much history that is important to have the guide explaining all the places and ruines.
