Additional Information

Auschwitz, the German concentration camps, are a powerful symbol of the horrors of World War II. Established by the Nazis in the occupied territories of Poland in 1940, near the town of Oswiecim, these camps were transformed into a museum shortly after the war’s conclusion, in 1947. Visitors can today witness the circumstances under which the prisoners lived, and truly comprehend the scale of the atrocities committed against them.

The existing museum spans two remaining sections of the former Nazi death camp – Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau. Together, they encompass a vast region where the prisoners’ accommodations, the remnants of the crematoria and gas chambers, and the Birkenau railway platform are situated.

A must see - The tour was really good value for money. The bus picked me up from the hotel, took me to the camp and drove me back home. It was really well organised and the tour guide was so knowledgeable. It’s a hard visit, to remember how people were treated and killed, but a necessary visit to understand the history. Would highly recommend.

OK, but could have been better organised - We thought it was a bit underwhelming the organisation. Bus had uncomfortable seats, and none of the 90 minute journey there was used to at least educate a little and talk about the visit we were going to make. The tour itself was a little light on detail, and also allowed no time to actually read the large number of placards available on site. We thought it was OK, but not much thought had gone into the set up, aside from pushing large numbers of guests through it.

Auschwitz visit - Beforehand, the organisation getting into Auschwitz was very poor. There were too many people trying to gain access and it was chaotic queueing. Once in, it was very good and the tour guide was very impressive and knowledgeable.

Disorganised. - Very disorganised, booked collection from hotel but had to walk in pouring rain to a meeting point. This was so late in the day that second part of the tour, which meant the most to us, was cut short as Auschwitz 2 was closing. The English speaking driver spoke no English and had absolutely no idea what was going on. Chaos at the meeting point outside Auschwitz. That said the tour guide was excellent and very apologetic that she couldn’t complete the tour as we were so late. I would highly recommend the tour but do choose another tour operator.

Scam - My money was taken and I had email stating I would be let know the next day about pick up and time . At first didn’t hear . I contacted the person in charge who gave me another phone number to call . She said it is cancelled they couldn’t get us tickets . We asked for refund and she said she can’t do it to speak to original guy . We rang him back , he said no I need to speak to lady We phoned lady who said no to ring him back again . He would not answer my calls or messages at all. So I used my daugher phone to call and he then answered . He said no to contact Viator for refund . Which we have and not heard anything . I feel I have been scammed £116 And came to Poland and never got to see Auschwitz-Birkenau I am so disappointed and am going home today without visit . I feel like my time here was ruined and not what I had planned to do Very sad and disappointed and lost my money
