Highlights
  • Vulkan Neighbourhood - Our experience starts in Vulkan, which is also called Oslo’s sustainable laboratory and it is a home for the first food hall in Oslo, the Mathallen.

This will also be our final station so don’t worry, you will have plenty of time to explore the area and maybe taste some more of the local treats in Mathallen after the tour!

  • Syverkiosken - It’s time to move towards an absolutely unique hidden gem - the oldest sausage stand in Oslo that sells sausages for more than 40 years! You will learn a bit more about the history of the kiosk as well as Norwegian sausage culture. And of course, you will taste a proper Norwegian hot dog too!
  • Grunerlokka - Our next stop will be in Grünerløkka, a district best known for the best coffee shops, food culture and small local shops that cannot be found anywhere else in Oslo. Here you will be able to taste typical Norwegian waffles, served with brown cheese, jam and sour cream and learn some fun facts about the waffle culture in Norway.
  • Akerselva River - Akerselva River used to be a crib of Norwegian industrial revolution and today, it’s considered the ‘green lungs’ of Oslo. During the tour, we will walk around some of the most beautiful places around the river, including impressive buildings and beautiful bridges and waterfalls.

So good! - The food was really good and really filling. It was interesting getting to learn more about the country and try some interesting food. I wish we tried some of the food from some older companies but it is a alternative culture tour. If you want a food tour this is great but it is the newer, younger culture you are learning about, not the history. It was a fun and interesting tour. You don't walk super long distances which is nice and you take breaks when needed. I really enjoyed the tour.

Great Food and Interesting Information - The food and culture tour with Katerina was great! I learned quite a bit about Oslo that I would have never picked up in an area I probably would have not visited on my own. The food was delicious and interesting, and Katerina provided interesting information about the food and the neighborhood. Walking on the ice was a challenge, but worth it!

Would definitely recommend this tour - This tour was so good Katarina brought us to parts of Oslo that we would have otherwise missed. The tour was so interesting and the food was great too. What made the food even better was there was a great story behind each place we had food from. It was definitely a great experience and we were super full after all the yummy food.

Engaging and entertaining - Katerina did a fantastic job of introducing us to traditional Norwegian food through the medium of a few street food stops in one of the 'hipster' neighbourhoods in Oslo. The food was (for the most part) delicious, and Katerina kept us engaged and entertained in some fairly snowy and cold conditions. A really great introduction to Oslo!

A taste of Norway! - We really enjoyed our tasting tour! Tara was a friendly and knowledgeable guide and was even willing to make an extra quick stop at a grocery store according to the group’s interest. We really felt that we got to try all the special Norwegian foods in one experience and it was pleasant to visit with other travelers. We also appreciated being able to see the waterfalls and the river, an area we hadn’t explored yet.

Good food and good company! - We had such a lovely time walking around a part of Oslo we may not have visited otherwise. Our guide was a delight and gave us lots of interesting information about the areas we passed through, and about the food we were trying. Speaking of food, we got to try some unique pieces from a deli, some Norwegian streetfood there was even dessert, we were absolutely stuffed by the end! Zero complaints and a strong recommendation for people visiting Oslo.

A Little Bit of Everything - Definitely come hungry! We started at the food hall with a small charcuterie plate (sausage, cheese, crackers and jam) and made our way to a hot dog stand, a bakery with delicious hot chocolate and a waffle house. We did not get to sit down inside any place except the foot hall, so be prepared to be outside. Our guide even directed us to a fantastic place to go (for drinks, not food -- we were full) after our tour!

Food Tour was not all that interesting. Big waste of money and time. - Oslo food tour was a big disappointment. Tour guide seemed half interested and places that we were taken were not interesting at all. I would tell people to not waste your money and do a pass on this tour.
