The tour of Taormina and Savoca is a high point among Sicilian day trips from Messina (either port or city center) especially for Godfather enthusiasts.
Starting from the place of departure, we are off to the historic town of Savoca in Sicily, an impressive medieval hamlet dubbed one of Italy’s most beautiful villages.
Here, you will embark on a mini tour of Savoca, tracing the path taken by the Godfather movie by F.F. Coppola. A statue in honor of Coppola is situated in the village’s scenic square, a spot also famous for the renowned Vitelli bar. Our tour guides will recount the area’s history and local celebrations.
Next, we head to Taormina, famously referred to as the ‘Mediterranean Pearl’. You’ll explore the ancient avenue of Corso Umberto, recently one of the filming locations for White Lotus Sicily’s second season.

FANTASTIC TOUR - Although it rained, it did NOT affect the quality of this tour one bit! Our guide was Katia and she was OUTSTANDING! She went above and beyond to make lemonade out of lemons (because of the rain)...Her wealth of information combined with her funny wit made it an absolute wonderful tour! My husband has a bad ankle (actually and artificial ankle) and with the rain, could not make it all the way the hill (or more importantly we were concerned about the slipperiness of the hill downward) to the Church used in the Godfather... Katia insisted he take her umbrella to use to help stabilize himself on the way down from where we were...she ended up being soaked! She pointed out so many things about the movie along our drive as well as when we were in the area walking around. We were actually one of the few that got to go into the Vitrelli Bar, sit down and enjoy a drink while others were up at the church! The driver as well was awesome, negotiating the winding roads, narrow streets like a pro! ABSOLUTELY hands down, recommend this tour with THIS company! Communication with them was FANTASTIC! Making Memories in Sicily - AWESOME!!!! If you don't do this excursion, you are missing out. Although it rained all day, our guide Katia and driver Emanual were both exceptional. They both looked after our safety as their #1 item. From driving to walking on slippery surfaces. Katia is very, very knowledgeable on Sicily as a whole. The God Father experience was really cool. Walking down from the church, the views, bar and reception area. Stopped for some wine and of course the bakery. Then off to Taromina shopping, drinking and of course more eating. Katia kept us updated on text of meeting points, times, very patient, knowledgeable and kind. Thank you to both of them for taking such good care of us and making this experience one to put in our books. We'll be back!

A fantastic tour! - Katia is an amazing guide. Her love for Sicily shines in this wonderful tour! In spite of rainy weather—we all laughed and enjoyed every moment! Anyone who loves the Godfather and wants to see where it was filmed should go!!!

Highly recommended (especially for small groups) - Booked by our travel agent after cruise ship excursion was sold out for our group of 6. Thank goodness for that! Tour with Katia was wonderful. She was funny, personable and very informative. Our driver Giancarlo did a fantastic job of navigating some very narrow streets up the mountain. Would highly recommend (especially for small groups). We did many excursions on our 11 day cruise and this one was the best one, by far. Thanks!

A Taste of Sicily. - Sicily is an island that deserves more than one day to explore. Taormina and Savoca were excellent cities to explore to get a nice flavoring of Sicily’s culture. The added bonus was being to personally see Vitelli’s bar in Savoca which was used as the bar scenes in the Godfather movie. The scenery and countryside viewed while traveling from city to city was fantastic. The tour was well worth the time and effort.

Sicily ❤️🇮🇹 - Katia was ultra prepared to share her knowledge of Savaco (The Godfather) and Taormina with our group. She was very pleasant and accommodating with everyone. She also provided some local goodies with us, as well as providing us with great suggestions on where we could find more as we strolled the streets of these lovely towns. Our driver was a Giacomo. He did a great job, putting us in a position to easily access the areas that we were visiting. I would highly recommend this tour.

Benvenuti a Messina! - Katia and Giacomo were amazing! The van we rode in was new and very comfortable. Giacomo is a very conscientious driver. Katia is very talented. With our group she spoke 3 different languages, Italian, Spanish and English. Everything was explained very clearly. Her demeanor is very warm and welcoming. We arrived back to our ship ahead of other shore excursions booked directly from the cruise line. The atmosphere is very delightful. Our favorite excursion thus far. YOLO, TAKE THE TRIP. La Dolce Vita.
