Setting Sail to Pig Island

The sun was just beginning to rise over Nassau as I made my way to the meeting point for the Swimming Pigs Tour—a short, breezy walk from the cruise port. The air-conditioned lounge was a welcome respite from the morning heat, and I helped myself to a cup of coffee while waiting for the rest of the group to gather. The anticipation was palpable, and I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of excitement as I thought about the day ahead.

Once everyone had arrived, we made our way to the boat. I was a bit surprised when asked to remove my shoes, but as soon as I stepped aboard, I understood why. The staff greeted us warmly, and their genuine love for the pigs was immediately apparent. As the pigs trotted out to meet us, I was struck by how much they resembled gentle, playful dogs. We were given the opportunity to feed and hold them, and the staff was more than happy to snap photos of us with our new porcine friends.

The island offered plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained. Some of the group opted to rent jet skis, while others took to the water with kayaks and paddleboards. I chose to relax on the beach, soaking in the sun and sipping on a refreshing rum punch. The staff ensured that the island remained clean and well-kept, swiftly tidying up after the pigs as they roamed around.

Snorkeling and Sunsets

As the afternoon wore on, we were given the chance to snorkel in the crystal-clear waters surrounding the island. This was a highlight for me, as the vibrant marine life and colorful coral reefs were a sight to behold. While the provided snorkel gear was serviceable, I was glad to have brought my own, as it made the experience all the more enjoyable.

The only hiccup in an otherwise perfect day was the ladder back onto the boat. It was a bit short, and I found myself struggling to hoist myself up, resulting in a few bruises as souvenirs. Despite this minor inconvenience, the day was nothing short of magical, and I left Pig Island with a heart full of memories and a camera full of photos.

As we sailed back to Nassau, the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the water.
