Mount Kilimanjaro - After breakfast we will drive up to Marangu gate. Once the necessary paper work has been completed, your trek can begin and you will soon be hiking through the dense rainforest.

Alongside the impressive vegetation, you will have the chance to catch a glimpse of some primates as you head to the Mandara Hut.

After a well-earned rest, your guide can take you to the Maundi Crater where you can enjoy the wonderful view of the Kenyan interior.

Mandara Hut To Horombo Hut

Mount Kilimanjaro - The day begins with an early breakfast. Shortly after you have left Mandara Hut, you will reach the timberline and then enter the heath and moor zone. Approximately 4

  • 6 hours later, the Horombo Hut will come into sight, standing at an altitude of 3700m.

From the hut, you will have fantastic views overlooking Mawenzi, Kibo and the wide plain of the Masai steppe.

Horombo Hut To Kibo Hut

Mount Kilimanjaro - Today’s stage is long and tough. The well-built trail passes the “Last Water point” which is followed by the so-called “saddle”. This nearly vegetation less plateau joins the main summit Kibo with Mawenzi.

Today’s destination is the Kibo Hut that is usually reached in about 5 - 6 hours. Here, you will enjoy an early evening meal followed by an early night, as the night will be short.

Kibo Hut To Uhuru Peak & Down To Horombo Hut

Mount Kilimanjaro - Today is “The Big Day” - the summit stage. You will begin your final ascent around midnight which will be long and strenuous. Passing the Hans Meyer Cave at 5220m, the climb slowly but surely goes upwards. At sunrise, you will reach Gillman’s Point (5681m)

  • the crater rim of Kilimanjaro - where the sun will slowly start to warm up the land.

You will have soon forgotten the cold of the night and after a further hike of 1 - 2 hours, you will reach Uhuru Peak at 5895m. On your return to Kibo Hut, a warm meal awaits you followed by a 1 - 2 hour break before proceeding back down to Horombo Hut.

Horombo Hut To Marangu Gate

Mount Kilimanjaro - The last stage passes through the heath and moor zone to the Mandara Hut (2700m) where a warm lunch is waiting for you. Soon, you will once again pass the tropical rainforest and after a total time of 6 hours trekking, you will be back at the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (1860m).

After saying goodbye to your mountain guides, a short transfer follows to take you back to your hotel in Moshi. Once there, you can take a warm and relaxing shower and celebrate your success in reaching the summit of the Kilimanjaro.

Additional Information

Marangu Route.

Often referred to as the ‘Coca-Cola’ route, the Marangu route is a time-honored path on Mount Kilimanjaro. Being the oldest and most established, it’s a popular choice for many climbers. What sets the Marangu route apart is it’s perceived to be the simplest route up the mountain, given its gradual incline. Moreover, it’s the single route providing dormitory-style sleeping huts.

Five days is the least required time to negotiate this route, though the chances of successfully summiting within this period are significantly low. We highly recommend an extra day for acclimatization when planning to climb Kilimanjaro via the Marangu route.

However, in spite of its tremendous popularity, we maintain a cautious approach towards leading climbs on the Marangu route. The drawback of it being the least diverse and most congested of all routes, primarily due to its ascent and descent along the same track, compels us to adopt this attitude. The Marangu route comes into preference only in the rainy season when the hut accommodations are desirable.

Dream Team ! Fabulous experience with exceed expectations! - I traveled solo to Tanzania for the purpose of hiking Kilimanjaro. Exceed expectations provided me with a great team of professionals. From day 1 communication with the head of the team ( Oscar) was great, Elly, picked me up from the airport to my hotel and explained everything in details about my upcoming trip. My guide Nemes was present the next morning and was extremely thorough with checking my gears and what I needed for the hike! Nemes along with the rest of my dream team ( Amir, Ombeni, Zilla, Shukuri) made my five day journey extremely comfortable and enjoyable! Their whole purpose was to help me achieve my goal “ to summit” Kilimanjaro in the best way possible. My dream team were extremely attentive, caring and super helpful! I wish I had the opportunity to travel and hike with them all over the world! I strongly recommend exceed expectations and my dream team for anyone who is ready to take the challenge of making it to Kilimanjaro summit! It was a blast, an absolute dream!

Pole-Pole 🚶‍♂.. with Exceed Expectations Tours to the Roof of Africa! - When I was planning for Kilimanjaro, I had this idea that I wanted to write something new every day. In my return I realized I had written no more than one line the entire week. The mountain had proposed many challenges, some face problems with the altitude, others with colds and stomach aches (Don’t worry you will be fine though). Just go to Exceed Expectations Tours Company and everything will be okay. The day began with my mountain and as much as I love to write but there was no time for that. Just begin “the mountain does not care about you , our guider would say” When your body was most in the pain, the mountain gave you more rocky terrain and when you needed break the most, the slight sign of sunset forced you to push on. The mountain does not care about you that is true but if you take care of yourself, the rocky terrain is no more than an adventure ‘Pole pole’ was the key. Hiking through the nights in fresh snow with the stars seemingly becoming closer and closer with every minute passing is what dreams are made off. What I remember most is my friends offering me sweets that I then shared with Joseph, our summit night guide. Just as tiredness was about to take us light started flooding in and the magical beauty, unlike any sight you could ever imagine appeared just beyond that final hill. On our way down from the mountain I asked our lead guider Henry if summiting ever got easy, he said ‘no, but it’s the feeling that anyone will wish to live with and that why I kept going every day. Our 5 days to Marangu route also known as the "Coca-Cola" route, were finally over and we back to Moshi town and shop few things ready to go back home later -on that night.
