The Lemosho Route is typically deemed as the premier path on Mount Kilimanjaro. Previously, the only two primary routes to conquer Kilimanjaro were the Marangu (Coca Cola) path and the Machame (Whiskey) path. However, with the growth of Tanzania’s tourism sector, more routes were established by the Kilimanjaro park authority to the highest peak in Africa. Lemosho, among the newer routes, is favored by renowned operators due to its allure, isolation, and high success rate. Simply put, it enhances a climber’s likelihood of reaching the summit and having a fulfilling journey overall. The Lemosho route can be completed in a minimum of 6 days (5 nights) spent on the mountain.
Preferably, it should be attempted across eight days (seven nights) to allow for a more effective altitude acclimatization process. The trek begins at the Londorossi Gate, set within a lush, prolific rainforest. The route proceeds to the Shira Plateau, then curves along the southern circuit halfway around the mountain, providing the climber with spectacular views from diverse angles.
