Highlights
  • Monteverde Tours - First, we will meet at Cafe Colibri, a small coffee shop next to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. We meet there to avoid confusion as you might see many tour guides and tourists at the park’s entrance. Our Tour Guide will be next to the entrance door of the coffee shop.

Then, our Tour Guide will take you to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reception, so you can get your entrance tickets, which you must purchase separately.

Once you have your tickets, you will enter the Monteverde Cloud Forest with our Tour Guide, who will lead you on a 2-hour to 2.5-hour walk to learn about the importance of the Monteverde Cloud Forest, potentially spotting animals* along the way. Our Tour Guide will use his HD spotting scope throughout the walk to help you take amazing photos of flora and fauna. You’re free to ask questions, and our Tour Guide will do their best to bring light to those questions.

Finally, you will return to Cafe Colibri for coffee and snacks (included with the tour) to wrap things up. At this point, you can ask your final questions to our Tour Guide.

*There is no guarantee you will see animals on this tour because the forest is unpredictable.

We also partnered with Cafe Colibri, a small coffee shop with a hummingbird garden next to the Monteverde Reserve entrance. And you free access to the coffee shop’s hummingbird garden, a magic garden where you will see dozens of hummingbirds flying around. You can also get drinks and pastries at the coffee shop (not included on this tour rate).

  • Especial for passionate birders. Previous birding experience is recommended but not required.
  • For a better experience, it is recommended to bring their own binoculars, but it is not required.

Please meet us at Cafe Colibri, a small coffee shop next to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Depending on the traffic, you may be able to park on the road (route 620, Carr. a Reserva de Monteverde). Otherwise, you may park at the Monteverde Reserve's Parking lot (in front of Selina's Hostel).

Perfect horseback ride through the mountains! - My husband and I did the 3:00 pm tour so we would finish around sunset. View was gorgeous from the top even with some cloud covering. Horses looked well taken care of and were perfect for beginner and advanced riders. We even got to gallop a couple times. Highly recommend. And the brief sugarcane experience at the end was fun too!

Sky Walk experience - We did the Sky Walk with a great guide, Roy, who was very informative. He spotted a green viper, many birds and a sloth! Totally enjoyable easy walk, I highly recommend.

Best guided tour ever! - Best guide ever! Jose, I think was his name. We were able to look in his scope many times. He spotted many amazing creatures for us. He was knowlegeable and easy to understand.

Great experience in Monteverde - Thanks for the wonderful Plan - We worked with Yamal from the start while planning our 5-day trip to Monteverde. Yamal was excellent and extremely patient with us as we went through all our options and things to do while in Monteverde. We were very happy and pleased with all the support we got with our reservations and even for changes that we made along the way. We used Monteverde Tours (Yamal) to plan for horseback riding, Selvatura ziplines and hanging bridges tour and Curi Cancha guided bird-watching tour. Our experiences were fantastic and will bring us back to Costa Rica again and we look forward to working with Monteverde Tours for our future trip plannings.

Great guide and spot for searching birds - Jesús (our guide - Spanish language) was excellent. He knew the best spot along the trail where to find a given bird. He also adapted to our expectations, skipping the species that we already saw and looking for new ones! He has a great skill for finding birds and aiming the telescope through foliage - we work on wildlife surveys and we were impressed. When we saw the Long-tailed Manakin (saltarín toledo), he described the display during the lek, and made the calls for us :) We also liked this tour because you support local business and help maintain forests in the area.

Great birdwatching experience - The spot selected to do the tour is very good because it has great visibility and different landscapes, so you can watch from small hummingbirds to tucans without walking long distances. Our guide Roiner is experienced and helped us to locate many different birds and distinguish them by their singing. He also carried a very good telescope wich helped us to apreciate with more detail many of the birds we saw. It is a high recomended tour for the people who like birdwatching.

Expensive for same tour people paid $25. - The tour and tour guide was fabulous. Fining Our tour guide was a challenge and we found it would Have been much cheaper to pay for guided tour there-

Knowledgeable guide, but the tour is only around El Bosque hotel - The guide himself was passionate about birds and knowledgeable. We've seen a few interesting species, including some woodpeckers, a parrot, some hummingbird species, a green toucan and some more smaller birds. Now the not so nice part: the tour description says that one starts with the breakfast at 6am at Hotel El Bosque, but the restaurant only serves breakfast from around 7:30. There was no information anywhere about the itinerary of the tour and what to expect. Basically we stayed mostly around the hotel premises, not even getting close to the Monteverde reserve. I would have expected that we go further into the forest, not just at the hotel area.
