Arrival and First Impressions

As the plane descended over the sprawling city of Mogadishu, I felt a familiar thrill of anticipation. My love for Africa’s diverse landscapes and cultures had brought me back to this continent time and again, but this was my first venture into Somalia’s vibrant capital.

Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by Omar, Ali, and Mohammed, the team responsible for guiding me through this two-day adventure. Their hospitality was immediate and genuine, setting the tone for what would be an unforgettable experience. After a quick check-in at the Airport Hotel Mogadishu, we embarked on a brief afternoon tour, capturing the sunset over the airport beach. The golden hues reflecting off the Indian Ocean were a photographer’s dream, and I couldn’t resist snapping a few shots to add to my collection.

Exploring Mogadishu’s Rich Heritage

The next day was dedicated to exploring the city’s historical and cultural landmarks. Our first stop was the bustling Hamarwein old town, where the narrow streets and ancient architecture told stories of a bygone era. The day concluded with a leisurely stroll along Lido Beach, where the crystal-clear waters beckoned invitingly. I regretted not bringing a swimsuit, but the experience was no less enjoyable. The locals were friendly and welcoming, and I even joined a group of children for a game of beach soccer, a delightful way to end the day.

On the final day, with a few hours to spare before my departure, Ali and Omar invited me to a local cafeteria for lunch.
