Mestia - Chalaadi Glacier
Chalaadi Glacier - Witness the birthplace of a river! On the second day, embark on one of Mestia’s most popular hikes to the Chalaadi Glacier, one of Georgia’s most accessible glaciers, located just 12 km from Mestia.
The glacier is a magnificent glacial tongue approximately 6 kilometers long, originating from the slopes of the impressive Ushba and Chatini massifs.
The trail starts with a serene walk through a lovely mixed forest, then follows a rocky path. As the forest clears, the trail leads to the Chalaadi River’s banks, where icy waters flow directly from beneath the glacier. The final stretch of the hike crosses large moraine stones, offering an adventurous approach to this awe-inspiring natural wonder. The entire journey from the bridge to the glacier and back typically takes up to 4 hours at a moderate pace, including breaks for rest and photos.
Mestia - After exploring the Chalaadi Glacier, return to Mestia to visit one of the renowned Svan Towers.
Svan Towers are the iconic emblem of Svaneti. These unique defensive towers, built primarily between the 9th and 12th centuries during Georgia’s Golden Age, are found nowhere else in the world. These tower houses served as fortified dwellings, usually standing 3–5 stories high and reaching about 25 meters.
After the tower visit, enjoy a meal at a local restaurant. At the day’s end, return to your accommodation.
