Additional Information

Embark on a half-day, 4-hour journey from Krakow that reveals the hidden trails of subterranean passageways. About 30 - 40 minutes into the drive, you’ll arrive at the Wieliczka Salt Mine to pair up with an English-speaking guide. Your guide will help you dive deeper into the history and significance of this site while highlighting its primary attractions. Typically, the guided tour of the Wieliczka Salt Mine spans 2 - 2.5 hrs. Throughout this exploration, you’re sure to visit the St Kinga’s Chapel, a stunning underground marvel. With its 54 m length and nearly 12 m height, it mirrors the interiors of ancient wooden churches, complete with magnificent salt crystal chandeliers, submerged corridors and landscapes, unseen saline lakes and exquisite subterranean chambers. Be prepared to climb about 800 stairs on the standard tourist route, with half of them found at the entrance. The tour concludes with our driver chauffeuring you back to Krakow.

  • A moderate amount of walking is involved. The route includes over 800 stairs.
  • Not recommended for participants who become easily claustrophobic. There are some very narrow paths inside the salt mine and this may be difficult for some. Once you have begun the tour there is no possibility to shorten your visit or turn back.
  • Hand luggage should be of a reasonable size, and larger luggage should be left in the car.
  • There is no minimum age to experience the activity, however, children should be capable of walking unassisted or be carried in baby slings or baby carriers. Baby strollers are not allowed underground.
  • Temperatures in Wieliczka Salt Mine are around 15ºC or 59ºF, it is recommended that you bring a jacket

One of highlights of visiting Poland - Absolutely loved the Salt Mines. Our very strict-seeming, very tall guide was so funny. Couldn’t have gotten luckier with our guide. Fascinating place to visit.

Interesting day, excellent value - A very interesting experience. Be prepared for a fair bit of walking, but virtually all is downhill. You take an elevator down, then a descending walk through wide, well-lit tunnel and various chambers, and eventually an elevator up. FYI, you emerge from the mine quite some distance from where you enter, so pay attention to instructions about how to get back to the parking lot where you ride is waiting.

Impressive mines - Impressive how the mines was maintained. It was also interesting to hear the history. A lot of walking down stairs, so participants need to be fit. A couple of participants in our group struggeled, but were well taken care of.

Interesting, 400ft below ground level - It was interesting to see how mining was done centuries ago. Guide, Tom was a good speaker. Would have preferred some type of system to help hear easier.
