Highlights
  • Kolkata Heritage Tram Tours - Greet your private guide outside Esplanade metro station at 5pm and catch the train up to a district little visited by foreigners and known for its cuisine.

When you disembark, you’ll dive straight in with an exotic lasse found at a local street vendor before hopping into a tiny joint that’s been whipping up some of the best masala curries in Kolkata for more than a century. As you eat, your guide will tell you stories of old Calcutta.

Jump aboard a local bus for a short journey up to one of Kolkata’s most celebrated seafood restaurants where you’ll try their signature jumbo prawn covered in chingri coconut cream sauce and a mouth-watering curried fish mousse steamed in a banana leaf. After leaving you’ll clamber aboard one of the old rickshaws, the only place where these wooden carts still exist in India and take a short tour of the area en route to the next foodie stop. Gorge on a prawn kabiraji at a legendary kitchen started by a Scot in the 19th century.

Kolkata might seem busy, but your guide will take you on a walk down through a peaceful district pointing out temples and local life along the way. As you meander the backstreets of old Kolkata, you’ll try tasty titbits from the city’s most famous onion bhajis to zingy gram salads made from herbs and pulses.

Sip on local ginger infused chai tea before jumping on board one of the old trams that have been plying the streets of Kolkata for over a century for a short journey to College Street. Here, piles of school book sellers are passed by university students on their way back from lectures. Drop into a local cafe to sample a famed coconut sherbet drink and then dive into Bengali treats at a nearby sweet shop.

The evening finishes in the faded grandeur of old colonial coffee shop where students are busy debating, ceiling fans whirl overhead and waiters serve coffees in traditional garb.

This isn’t just a foodie tour, it’s a tour into the heart of Kolkata.

A unique and wonderful way to explore Kolkata and it’s great food scene - We had an amazing evening with Avik and the tour is a truly wonderful way to both explore Kolkata and taste some of the amazing food the city has to offer. We particularly enjoyed the variety of food and experiences, many of which we wouldn’t have been able to find ourselves. Avik is so knowledgable and kind, we couldn’t recommend this more!

All the Kolkata street food in one evening - Well thought-out tour which not only exposes you to the Bengali tastes of Kolkata but also shows you some neighborhoods off the beaten track with plenty of knowledge from the tour guide.

Hidden food gems in Kolkata! - It was a fantastic walk and Avik took us to some of best hidden gems that this city has to offer! The food spots were chosen with care and it was obvious that Avik had curated each experience for maximum impact. I must mention the puchka which made a die-hard Delhite like me doubt my love for the golgappa and the Pan sherbet which made me feel that I was 'drinking' an actual pan! Apart from the food, the format of interspering local modes of travel with food stops and walking was unique and made the walk very interesting. We were walking, eating and travelling for 4 hours in sticky humid weather but it was more than worth it! Thank you Avik for a wonderful experience!

All 5 senses in play… - Very enjoyable tour, learning about Calcutta neighborhoods, of getting around as well as the food and drink. Learned that some things have to be eaten right on the spot and some of the restaurants are really interesting.

Kolkata street food tour - I thoroughly enjoyed this food tour. I’ve been on multiple ones during my trip to India and sometimes they overlap and share the same food items. With this tour, everything was completely different. Avik was an excellent guide and it was a blast navigating the different street food vendors in parts of Kolkata that I would have never found myself. I highly recommend this tour if you’re spending some time in Kolkata.

Fantastic - The tour was incredible. A very non touristy experience with all food and drink hygienic and EXTREMELY tasty. Coming from the UK Indian food is my favourite cuisine and I have tangled with my fair share of bhajis, but never had any close to how good these were. Writing this the morning after the tour and absolutely no issues with feeling sick etc. Unmissable and would advise not eating lunch the same day 😂

Bengali nights food tour - No “chef” t shirt so very difficult to follow at speed walking! Guide knowledgeable about food and Kalcutta but very unprofessional arguing with bus ticket man and taxi. Tour did not finish at the location stated and we had to pay additional cost for taxi to get us back. Coffee served with milk and sugar which could have been optional.
