- Restaurant The Golden Fort - Jaisalmer, a former medieval trading hub and princely state in Rajasthan, India, is nestled in the heart of the Thar Desert. Known as the “Golden City,” it is renowned for its yellow sandstone architecture. The skyline is dominated by Jaisalmer Fort, a vast hilltop citadel supported by 99 bastions. Within its formidable walls lie the ornate Maharaja’s Palace and intricately carved Jain temples.
Your guided day tour begins with a visit to Jaisalmer Fort, located in the city’s center. Also known as ‘Sonar Kila’ or ‘Golden Fort,’ this yellow sandstone fort gleams like gold at sunset. Constructed in 1156 AD atop Trikura Hill by Bhatti Rajput ruler Jaisal, it remains a living fort. It houses beautiful havelis, renowned Jain temples, and the residences of soldiers and traders. The Jain temples, five in number, are adorned with magnificent depictions of Hindu deities like Shiva Parvati and Ganesha. These temples are crafted from sandstone, marble, and habur stone. The intricate carvings on the pillars and ceilings of each temple are breathtaking.
- Kothari’s Patwon Ki Haveli - Next, you proceed to visit Patwon Ki Haveli, located near the Patwa campus. This complex comprises five havelis built by Guman Chand Patwa in 1805 for his five sons. These havelis took 50 years to complete, and the painting work is captivating.
- Nathmal Ji Ki Haveli - Another significant Haveli to visit with your tour guide is Nathmal Ji Ki Haveli, situated within walking distance from Patwon Ki Haveli. It showcases a blend of Rajput and Mughal design. This Haveli was constructed by Maharaja Barisal as a residence for Diwan Mohata Nathal and is adorned with paintings of birds, elephants, flowers, bicycles, steam engines, and soldiers.
- Sam Sand Dunes - After visiting these famous Havelis, you will be taken to a local Indian restaurant for lunch. After enjoying the Rajasthani cuisine, you proceed to experience a camel safari in Sam Sand Dunes. Sam is located 40 KM from Jaisalmer. On the way to Sam, you can stop at the haunted city of Kuldhara, which was once part of the medieval silk route. Legends say this village was abandoned by the Pariwal clan due to the tyranny of Commander Salim Singh, and since then, it has been cursed. Later, proceed to the camel safari point at Sam. Riding a camel in the open desert is an adventure that echoes the challenges faced by caravan traders. After completing the safari, you will be returned to your hotel in Jaisalmer.
