Dating back to at least the fifteenth century, the current single-space basilica with cross-shaped domes was constructed in 1783. This large single-vaulted Basilica features a wooden icon screen that is a true masterpiece. The wall paintings in the main church date from 1792. Also noteworthy are the impressive bell tower, the intricately carved screen, the icons (mostly in the Cretan Byzantine style), votive offerings, and the Panormitis icon. The full-figure representation was entirely covered in gold and silver in 1724, funded by the captains, clergy, and community of Symi.
The monastery complex includes an Ecclesiastical Museum with rich collections of relics and a Folklore Museum. There is also a Library with post-Byzantine manuscripts. Additionally, it offers a hostel for visiting worshippers. The Monastery celebrates on the 8th of November and during Pentecost.
