Discovering Icacos: A Spontaneous Island Adventure
When the crowded ferry to Culebra didn’t appeal, I opted for a spontaneous trip to Icacos Island with East Coast Water Taxi. The promise of sun, sea, and serenity was too tempting to resist.
Setting Sail to Icacos Island
The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I found myself in Fajardo, ready to embark on a spontaneous adventure to Icacos Island. With my partner by my side, we decided to ditch the crowded ferry to Culebra and instead, called up East Coast Water Taxi. They were more than accommodating, even at the last minute, and soon we were on our way to what promised to be a day of sun, sea, and serenity.
As a former professional surfer, I’ve always had a deep connection with the ocean, and the short boat ride to Icacos was a reminder of why I love island life so much. The crew was friendly and even threw in an umbrella for free, which was a nice touch. We made a quick stop at a convenience store for some last-minute supplies, and before we knew it, we were pulling up to the pristine shores of Icacos.
A Day of Snorkeling and Sunbathing
Stepping off the boat was a bit of a challenge, as the sand was soft and the current a tad strong, but it was all part of the adventure. I couldn’t help but chuckle at my own clumsiness as I waded through the water, flip-flops in hand. Once on the beach, we set up our little oasis under the umbrella, ready to soak in the sun and the stunning views of the Caribbean.
The water was crystal clear, and as we donned our snorkeling gear, I was eager to explore the underwater world. The vibrant marine life did not disappoint. We spotted colorful fish darting around and even a sea anemone swaying gently with the current. It was a reminder of the beauty that lies beneath the waves, a world that I never tire of exploring.
Hiking and Relaxing in Paradise
After a refreshing swim, we decided to take a hike to discover more of the island. The trail offered breathtaking views of the Caribbean, and as we reached the top, I felt a sense of peace and fulfillment. There’s something about being surrounded by nature that rejuvenates the soul.
As the day came to a close, we packed up our things and waited for the boat to pick us up. Climbing back on was easier than getting off, and I couldn’t help but laugh at the thought of my earlier antics. The ride back to Fajardo was filled with reflections of a perfect day spent in paradise.
Icacos Island is a hidden gem, and East Coast Water Taxi made the experience seamless and enjoyable. Whether you’re looking to snorkel, hike, or simply relax on the beach, this is an adventure worth taking. I can’t wait to return and explore more of what this beautiful island has to offer.
