Highlights
  • The Singleton Distillery - Fantastic place to visit: Glen Ord - Singleton is a creation of the modern, 21st-century age of single malt
  • Glenmorangie Distillery - A superb location and great staff. Currently celebrating the 175th anniversary of its founding in the Highland town of Tain, Glenmorangie was one of the pioneers of the modern malt boom
  • Blair Athol Distillery - Situated in Pitlochry, the Perthshire town at the gateway to the Highlands, this distillery produces malt whisky that is added to the famous Bell’s blend, as well as a small selection of single malt bottles. The tour is engaging and well thought out, with the expert guides capable of answering even the most complex of questions.
  • Dalwhinnie Distillery - Visitors to Dalwhinnie get an unusual opportunity to do tastings not only of the distillery’s own single malt but of other whiskies that are paired with chocolate from the Scottish Highlands. Being in the Highlands it’s one of the highest distilleries in Scotland, though the water comes from a branch of the River Spey: the whisky river.
  • Edradour Distillery - Beautiful distillery. Based in Perthshire, Edradour only produces twelve casks a week and is the smallest traditional distillery in Scotland. For that reason its tours (from April to October) are unique and very personal. It opened in 1825 as a farm distillery and still operates on that basis.
  • Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery - A trip back in time at this outstanding distillery. Perth’s Tommy Dewar understood the power of marketing. A globetrotting brand ambassador before that title had really been established, in the early years of the 20th century Dewar enlisted Thomas Edison to direct a film commercial for his White Label blend. It’s possibly why Dewar’s remains among the best-selling blends in the US.
  • Deanston Distillery & Visitor Centre - A great tour stop! A steady supply of water doesn’t automatically lead to whisky production. In Deanston, it once meant textile manufacturing. Which is why this distillery wouldn’t look out of place along the Rochdale canal. A Richard Arkwright-designed textile mill, Deanston was transformed into a distillery in 1966. Thanks to the River Teith, the distillery, as with the mill before it, generates its own power. Tour guides point out the ghostly remains of what was claimed to be the largest waterwheel in Europe
  • Oban Distillery - One of the best Highland malts. Squeezed between the coast and the cliff that separates the harbour from the suburbs above, the Oban distillery is a tight huddle of grey granite buildings. When the distillery was built in the 1790s, Oban was little more than a scatter of herring storehouses, but since then the busy port has grown around it. This pocket-size distillery’s tours offer a rare chance to sample a west-coast style (somewhere between a sweet Speysider and the smokey islands). When the drizzle descends, the lively dramming bar is the place to settle in and see it out before catching a ferry to recently reopened Tobermory distillery on Mull.
  • Glengoyne Distillery - Often described as “Scotland’s Most Beautiful Distillery”, Glengoyne is open all year for guided distillery tours, whisky tastings and special events. Just a short drive from Glasgow, Stirling and Loch Lomond, this traditional, hard working distillery has been flourishing since 1833. Glengoyne’s range of in-depth distillery tours, whisky tasting sessions, private dining and unique hospitality includes the legendary Master Blender tour where guests create their very own individual whisky to take home.
  • The Glenturret Distillery - Scotland’s Oldest Working Distillery based in the heart of Perthshire with experiences to suit everyone. We offer whisky to take home with all our tours, so nobody misses out on the complete experience. Facilities include, The Bar, The Restaurant, The Cafe, The Shop and Tours. With 11 experiences to choose from, including 3 gift experiences which can be purchased as a present for that special person in your life. Expert Hosts will guide you through your choice ensuring you receive the perfect Scottish welcome. Slainte.
  • Tomatin Distillery Visitor Centre - Fantastic stop: a Highland Distillery Visitor Centre with a range of tours and award winning whiskies available. A great shop in which you can purchase Tomatin merchandise and various expressions of Tomatin, including filling your own bottle from one of the cask strength distillery exclusive whiskies. The Tomatin Distillery lies just 16 miles south of Inverness and 15 miles north of Aviemore on the A9 - extremely convenient for anyone travelling to or from the Highlands! Open 7 days all year round! April-September 9.30am-5.30pm October-March 10.30am-4.30pm
  • Knockdhu Distillery - Excellent whisky and a great tour experience:

The Knockdhu distillery is a whisky distillery in Knock, Banffshire owned by Inver House Distillers Limited.

The distillery was founded in 1893 by John Morrison, who bought the land from the Duke of Fife to produce whisky for Haig’s after several springs on the southern slope of Knock Hill were discovered.

Now known as a well respected single malt worldwide.

  • Balblair Distillery - A must stop when near to Inverness:
The whisky reflects Balblair and the people who have been there for generations. Created with pride and a dedication to excellence. A gentle, hands-on approach is what gives the whisky its distinctive character.
  • Ben Nevis Distillery - Lovely place to visit: Incorporated within Ben Nevis Distillery is The Legend of the Dew of Ben Nevis Visitor Centre, built into an old warehouse dating from 1862 and former bottling hall, which still retains some of its original features. You will encounter the mythical giant Hector McDram who will reveal the Legend of the Dew of Ben Nevis in a specially commissioned audio visual presentation.

After your experience with Hector, a conducted tour of the production areas by a trained guide concludes with a complementary ‘tasting’.

After your tour around the distillery why not relax with a refreshment or if you are hungry, try some of our delicious home cooking in the coffee shop and restaurant. It will be an unforgetable treat.

  • The Dalmore Distillery - The luxury malt of the north Highlands:

Dalmore is located along spectacular Scottish coastline, on the shores of the Cromarty Firth.

On one of Dalmore’s intimate tours you will discover our exceptional Single Malt whisky that we have had the privilege to make since 1839.

The Dalmore Distillery is home to our collection of rare casks sourced from the world’s finest bodegas and wineries, that are essential to produce our legendary whisky.

  • Glen Garioch Distillery - The Home of Glen Garioch
The little distillery sits right in the sheltered heart of the Valley of the Garioch, from which it takes its name.

Just 17 miles from Aberdeen in the very north-eastern tip of Scotland, Glen Garioch is the most easterly Scotch Whisky distillery not just in Scotland but the world. Precious few whisky travellers venture this far east in pursuit of the perfect dram, but those who do never turn back. Great to link in with Glendronach.

  • The GlenDronach Distillery - A UNIQUE HERITAGE AND TRADITIONAL PAST
As was the case in 1826, The GlenDronach Distillery patiently matures its single malt whisky in superior quality sherry casks. Our distilling methods may be old-fashioned, but they prefer to look on them as handcrafted techniques created through nearly 200 years of tradition.

Over the years of extended maturation, their carefully seasoned casks help create the unique richly sherried style that The GlenDronach is famous for.

  • Royal Lochnagar Distillery - Possible the most beautiful surroundings of any Scottish distillery.

One mile from Balmoral Castle, it sits at the foot of the Cairngorm mountains, fed by the crystal clear water of the Scarnock springs.

  • Tullibardine Distillery - One of the best Highland distilleries only an hour from Edinburgh.

Tullibardine distillery is a Scottish distillery since 1949, producing a single malt whisky. The whisky distillery is located in Blackford, Perth and Kinross, close to the Ochil Hills and the Danny Burn, their main water sources.

10/10 - Book the Trip - I had an amazing tour with Euan's company. Our driver was Billy who was fun, funny, chatty and so informative. We had a couple of tight timelines but Billy made sure we got in to every spot we wanted to get into. The ONLY downside to this was that our itinerary came late and I got a bit nervous. However, because it came in a little late, we were able to request a last minute change. Euan was extremely accommodating. It was fantastic to walk into a place, have our tasting scheduled. Billy did a great job guiding us through the different distilleries, highlighting different whisky. The cost is very reasonable given the expense of renting a car and the time to drive between distilleries. The roads are a bit overwhelming. I will say, having a competent driver was fantastic. The roads can be a bit treacherous. Billy knew where he was going and often shared little trivia facts during the drive. Once you calculate the cost of a car, the fuel, the accommodations, the tastings, the actual cost is very nominal. They cover three tastings per days and anything more is out of pocket. It was unclear at first that Macallan was not included but I understand why. It is very expensive and honestly, I would skip it. There are so many other charming and warm places to visit. WW makes sure to highlight those places. They drop you off for lunch (at your own expense) and both days were delicious! Obviously the locations change depending on your specific tour. The first day, we ate lunch in a beautiful courtyard filled with flowers. The food was superb. I didn't have to scramble to search a menu. It was so relaxing to get dropped off, have a great meal and relax. When I think of everything we were able to experience, I was thrilled with the tour. We were able to go to a final independent distiller who was also able to ship whisky home. We just got back last Tuesday (as in 3 days ago) and our whisky is already here! 10/10 I would recommend this tour. I have recommended this tour to several friends and family members.

Excellent tour with a lot... - Excellent tour with a lot of flexibility and no driving stress. We visited 3 smaller distilleries and in retrospect am glad we went down that route vs visiting a larger one. Our driver Mark was outstanding!!!

Great and seamless tour! - My partner and I travelled to Scotland over New Years and decided that when in Scotland it was a must to do a distillery tour. We reached out to Euan and he prepared for us a wonderful 4 day Highlands Whisky Tour with some added attractions as well, as per our request. The tour was seamless, great choice of distilleries, the distillery tours were brilliant and the chosen accommodation was lovely. We were definitely thrilled with our tour and it was the highlight of our UK trip !

Top-drawer - Fantastic Trip, very well organised. Much recommended I've done previous tours cheaper like Rabbies - they get you there. You wait in a big long queue. Do a tour, do the obligatory 'tourist' tasting... With Whisky Wheels, there was much more thought. Everything arranged before you get to the distillery (Which is helpful if you're drinking drams) You're taken from place to place - when you enter, everywhere is set-up and ready to go. We had a fantastic time and felt like we really got an 'insider' experience. The Whisky guide was also a great addition to the experience

Great driver, beautiful countryside, tour was great, just too much money for what we did. - Our driver was the best. Next time, I'll book direct instead of booking through a third party. With how much it cost, I was expecting more. Our driver gets 5 stars though.

Very disappointing. - This trip was horrible. We were picked up in a taxi after being told it would be a different vehicle. It was very uncomfortable. The driver barely spoke to us. Never pointing out what we were seeing along the way. The place they had planned for us to stop for lunch was closed so we had to backtrack to find a different place to eat. This put us about 45 minutes behind. This tour was over $1500 for 6 people. By far the most expensive we did on our 8 day trip and by far the worst. In the taxi, 3 of us had to sit on fold out seats-jump seats if you will. Horribly uncomfortable. The drive to and from the distilleries was beautiful but we had no idea what we were seeing because the driver didn’t engage in conversation at all. We did 6 different tours from Viator that were all wonderful, but this was just bad. Don’t recommend at all!!! Tomatin distillery was amazing. Ben Nevis was a total cluster as they had several bus loads of people they were trying to accommodate and were very rude to the 3 of us that just wanted a tasting. Singleton distillery was also wonderful but don’t waste your time at Ben Nevis.

Disappointing - Disappointing experience- We were booked in to see 4 different sights- Invereray castle, a distillery tour at Glengoyne and whisky tasting at Deanston distillery. The driver Steve was very polite and friendly. We wanted to cover Glencoe, Loch Lomond, Inverness and a distillery. We were booked to go to Glengoyne and Deanston already but were unaware of the distance between Loch Lomond/ Glencoe and the 2 distilleries already on the itinerary. We were driven to see a few Lochs, Doune castle and Glencow but were not informed that we would miss the distillery tour if we travelled to Glencoe instead. I wish this had been mentioned as we would have done the distilleries instead. The driver though friendly, did not seem very keen to cover too many sights and arrived at the wrong hotel at 8am inspite of giving the right address, leading to a delay. I have done the highlands tour before and the small groups/ mini bus tours are better as they cover more sights. Although we wanted to cover Inverness, the tour operator/driver did not agree to drive to it as it was ‘too far’. Considering all the sights we saw, I dont think it was worth spending 4 times the normal amount. PART 2- We booked a SECOND tour with the same tour operator via Viator to view a distillery. Although Viator confirmed the booking, it had apparently not reached the tour operator. Since it was our last day in Edinburgh, this was VERY disappointing as despite booking, there had been some miscommunication. I may not use Viator or this tour operator again. Calling customer care (Viator) to claim a refund was extremely difficult as the 2 people we spoke to, had trouble with communication and understanding English. I have used Viator before and this was the first time I have been let down badly 2 days in a row.
